My guess is vibration. The 1/2 lexan you used for your top is a little thin for me. Plastic panels look great but unless they are really thick they will resonate...

I second the vote for the Pioneer DEH P2500 at crutchfield. You can find the radio cheaper elsewhere but crutchfield includes the kit and harness. And their tech help is pretty good too.
