i ran my struts over and used a pipe wrench with pb blaster but in the end a good anchored vise with a pipe wrench works best

if its the axle you would see grease all around the boots...bearings can be checked by jacking the side up, take off tire, take off the caliper and rotor...get another jack stand and a pencil and pres...
