It doesnt look too bad. Im actually suprised that car wax would help it.
What you may want to do is use denatured alcohol to remove your paint, and then do it again. Then let it dry for a day or so....

The postert is just a wee bit taller. I would imagine though that they would have the same mounting points and therefore would accomodate the risers anyhow.

I will post more pics of them in the sunlight tomorrow. If you look at the side pics I have, they look more like the color of the red thats on the very corners of the lights all through the taillight...
