Since one pipe is hot and the other is cold i would assume that for some reason the water isnt circulating, either the water pump isnt working or thermostat is bung.

take the radiator cap off and run the car, as the coolent cycles around keep topping it up.

Yea sounds like that. if your lights are fine there could be a wiring issue. apparently quite common. the flatmates camry that light comes on but all his lights are fine.

you would probably want to get it done asap, they aint hard to replace. when i did mine i didnt even drain all the coolant just a little bit so when i un did the housing heaps of coolant didnt go ever...
