I've never run across it before, but it sounds like you've just about got it solved. Do you know what kind of relay it is? I'm guessing that it's probably not your average SPDT automotive relay.

Yes, Brahmas are awesome as well, from what I've read. I've never heard one though. Also, Adire's Shiva, at $125 MSRP, is an excellent value for a sub with a good combination of SQ and SPL.

Also, if you're looking for the best, look at the Image Dynamics IDMAX and Elemental Designs a-series. I'd put those two subs in the number two position right under the W7.
