yes the best way would be to weld metal to the back of the sidemarker holes and then fill the hole with bondo... putting bondo on holes that big prob wouldnt hold up for too long

i dont know ive seen the long strand stuff after an accident and it didnt crack too bad, unless you used too much hardener i think it tends to work well, but i dont plan on getting in any accidents
