I've sprayed my passenger door with a spray can and a couple spray cans of laquer and its not a bad job. If you use a compressed air sprayer then you should get an even better job.

I think the top (red) one is just pushed onto the bodywork, not sure exactly.
The lower (yellow) one is a pain in the neck. It has a couple of push fasteners and its clipped into a couple of brackets...

You could use a dremmel to remove most of the material and then use your soldering iron knife to slightly melt the cut rough edge into a smooth edge if sanding is too difficult.
