I dunno what they are? theres a few of those around the car, wires branching off the loom into plugs for grey boxes... and thats it the grey boxes are just blank (from what i can tell on the outside) ...

I've owned regular Celicas of various milage, including an SS-III (superstrut) and they have never had problems with wheel bearings or superstrut, I think basically the chassis are of similar strength...

sounds like a bit of both superstrut arm and wheel bearing,
with superstrut, find the arm with the worn ball joint and replace that arm, sometimes you'll need new tophats aswell
