If you can't find out what is wrong here is a link to the ac section of the service manual. It has parts for checking resistance and continuity between terminals of the ac control units.

Ya sounds like the CV joint, look at the inner and outer boots to see if they are cracked. You'll need to get a new one, and the drivers side is the biggest pain to get out.

Ya it would make a vac leak, I think if you actually get behind there is plugs into the vsv that is hooked to the rear side of the intake, but hey its toyota they run no matter what

I believe that if that hose is disconnected you will always run max pressure on the rail, so it won't make a performance difference but I guess will wear down the fuel pump faster.

Heh, after I rebuilt my engine I didn't hook up the tranny mount for about 3 months until I saw it hanging around in the engine bay, didn't even notice anything. Good ol' toyota.

I would check out the integrated relay and jb#1 which are both behind the drivers kick panel. All of the stuff you are talking about having trouble with are terminated there.
