the 1.8 puts out 115 hp, what do you expect.
some mods you can start with to make it more responsive:
tighten the throttle cable
install a high flow air filter

10w-30 is what Toyota recommends. and I don't see much point in using synthetic in a economy engine (7a,5s) but if you can afford it, why not I guess

if your stock sway bars don't rub the aftermarket ones won't either. they are only slightly thicker, but they eliminate the linkage which makes them that much more supportive.
