Why would you run a power cable across the engine bay to a rubber grommet when you can use the ECU one like i pointed out, which is on the correct (battery/passenger) side.

See the red arrows, they are pointing to where the engine loom goes through the firewall, put a hole in that and poke the wire through.

Had this issue with a mates ae82, it turned out to be the master cylinder.
In the time it was disconnected the seal must have hardened because it wasnt pushing fluid or much pressure.

your fronts do most of the braking so for the rear my suggestion is to run OE pads. They brake plenty well enough, being the rear heat will never be an issue and of all the pads they dust the least.
