fyi, only one clip (located at the top center of the headlamp) hooks the rubber surround to the headlamp. the rest of the clips simply hook the glass to the housing (even though it doesn't need it). ...

you'll need the pliers if you intend to keep the dust cap. but the dust cap bends easily and when that happens you're screwed. so you're better ordering a new dust cap than the pliers.
