I would deffinatly build one, 1k is a decent amount although limiting if your buying everything (monitor/speakers etc.) but you can get a decent desktop together for that price.

looks like a lisence plate light bulb cover to me (cause of its size and shape,) which means it can be any car/truck/transformer etc. take it to a shop and have them match the paint color to a factory...

MR2 I'm not a fan of the 3000GT's at all, very fugly imo and i've heard of them having regular issues. the MR2 is very good looking and if you can find a turbo one deff. worth while.
