Don't worry about the box, you won't need it at all. Just makes the intake quieter. No power loss or nothing. Put the new pipe and filter element in and you're good to go.

You can indeed use the tranny from a 3sge motor. An s56 or e54 if I'm not mistaken. It'll bolt up fine to both the 5sfe motor and the 3sgte. It's stronger than the 5sfe tranny, but you're best bet for...
