Check to make sure your cable isn't binding or caught anywhere, same goes for the arm the throttle is mounted to. Also make sure the throttle plate isn't gummed up.

If you have no spark, check to see if the coil is getting voltage sent to it.
If it is getting 12V, the coil is bad, if not either the ignitor, ECU or wiring is bad, or the ECU isn't seeing the engine...

Sometimes plugs actually come out safer on a cold engine [head] instead of a hot one.
You should be fine leaving it in there for now, which is probably your best bet.
