my brother's civic had basically the same problem. we put new plugs and wires, dizzy and button and it had no probs. eventually needed a new coil pack so u may wanna look into that too

dude 45 to 50 shouldnt b any problem in 3rd... my ST will do 65 to 70 in 3rd w/o any isssues to the motor and it has ~207,000 miles on it

honestly, i would say your problem is more than likely with that antenna. If you have the stock antenna still attached, try using it and see if the signal improves.
