hmm from what my dad says you cant really self test an ecu, iirc he said you need some sort of tester box that connects between the ecu and the wiring harness or something like that... its kind of uns...

Yeah far as I know it does it in every gear from a complete stop on up, but it slowly gets quieter as I go through the gears. Maybe that's because the road noise muffles it?
