Me and my friend couldnt agree on this. I was under then impression that you couldnt have underbody lights on you car while you car is driving, He said it was ok aslong as you couldnt see the bulb. So please tell me. Where i can put them, when they can be on ect.

Different laws for different states.
And really, its not against the law to have them. Its how the officer wants to interpret the law.
1 cop could say its sweet, the next could give u a ticket.

most cops will tell u they r illegal if they can see the bulbs. And that red and blue r illegal cause they r saved for Emergency use only.

Thats the responces i get from city, sheriff, and highway officers.

Here in NY green,blue & red are illegal to have on while your driving. Any other color is legal at this time. Some cops will still pull you over and give you sh*t about them.

I got a ticket for yellow.

in jersey the law is that you can only have white or amber underneath...the reason being is because apprently all the other colors are distracting to other drivers(which is wierd because than why are stores allowed to have neon lights and strobe in thier store fronts?) any other color underneath you have to be parked to turn them off or in a development...cops aren't that bad about it around here tho

I got a $171 ticket for having blue neon inside my car. It was illegal because apparently it would've been really easy for someone to mistake my car for a police car(ya know, they have so many bright yellow police cars with neon lights these days >>)

I went to court, and they dropped the ticket down to $65. I'm so angry at the city though. EVERY cop, city official, and judge I talked to about this said that only blue and red are illegal because they're reserved for emergency vehicles, but in fact, the law states that any color can be considered illegal. My friend got a ticket for having yellow neon, went to court, and they didn't drop his ticket at all. The city just has a ploy to lie to people I think so that they can get more money. >>

In Mississippi you can't drive with them but I want them any way >>

and i don't see why RED would be a big deal...at least not for the back...

well check with your local laws, but I had so much glow any cop would just ask how, and how much. But in Oregon the law says you cant have any under glow or any other lights besides factory unless they are yellow, apparently you know semi trucks have tons of lights and how they are all yellow, thats why they made the law like that here. but I never had a problem with tickets or anything even tho mine were all blue. just make sure you find out the law in FULL detail

Just goto your DMV site, and then email them a detailed message of everything you want to know, and they will get back to you in a few days. I sent like 50 questions reguarding anything i could think of and they answered it all really helped out.

In VA they are illegal to drive with. the only way u can have them on is if your car is in park. if you are in a parking lot and dont have your car in park(automatic), you can get a ticket.

Yeah that sucks, i emailed Texas DMV i will post the response i get it

The common practice to circumvent these laws is to install the lighting
under the vehicle, out of direct view, so that the light is cast downward
illuminating the ground. State law is silent on this issue (in this case
silence is not golden) and the federal regulations do not prohibited it,
except for taking the place or interfering with any required lamp,
especially the license plate lamp.

This is a technical loophole. As with all technical or legal loopholes, it
is not understood by everyone to include some law enforcement personnel. All
questions of law are finally resolved in court.

To put it simply, while you may be able to drive the vehicle with the accent
lights illuminated and not receive a citation, there may come a time when
you are cited and the judge agrees with the officer. Your only recourse will
be to appeal the decision until you reach a court that recognizes the
loophole and you may still lose.

Ok, about 4 yrs ago I owned a 95 mustang, I had aqua neon underneath, in the wheel wells, and on the license plate. I got stopped twice for it.

1st Time: I got a ticket for all the neon, 2 individual tickets, 1 for the license plate, and 1 for the underbody. They mistook it for blue. Got the underbody one dropped.

2nd Time: I was told in FL neon is illegal on the license plate, but is allowed on the underbody.
