Hey guys,

Im just doing some research on amps and I noticed that I get alot of ratings for 12V and then 14.4V. Noticing that 14.4V gives more juice, how do I wire the amp so that I get that voltage? Yup.....i know nothing about amps!

You don't do anything special to get that voltage to the amp. >>

What many quality manufacturers do is measure voltage at 12 volts, which is more realistic of the power that the amp outputs. Some other companies will measure power at 14.4 volts so that their power ratings appear to be higher.

The alternator runs at 14.4, the battery is normally 12v. In a normal car, the voltage will fluctuate from 12-15 depending on what your running(head lights, wipers, power windows...).

if you wanna get more power for your amps search for a high amp'd alternator.. if you can find an alternator company or company that rebuilds them they can possible customize one.

You could also add a stiffening capacitors to help with the big hits. They don't give you more power or voltage necessarily, its more like a more steady signal.

Stiffening Capacitors reserves power basically... it holds enough juice to push the amp to 14.4v when it needs it. Like when a low bass hit is needed that is when the cap kicks in.
