Actually, there are two Beams VVTI engine in Japan, the first one is about 190HP, the second one is about 210HP
He has the red top one so its the 190 hp version.

I think black top = 210 hp which is pimp

can you swap a black top or red for that matter inplace of a 7afe?
yeah, isn't the wiring for the vvti a real biatch?
seems to be a rare one alright
what is the enging code for the beams VVTI engines? like 7afe or 3sgte... or are they just known as "beams vvti"?
well, they're just variations of the 3s-ge

A beams red top 3s-ge is not impossible to find, its just really hard. And finding a black top is even harder. I dont think the wiring would be that different from any other engine...

And also the black top was moutned in the altezza with a RWD tranny, so it was transmounted... which may mean you could run into alot of other problems and need alot more custom stuff.
since the altezza was rwd couldnt you just get different motor mounts( i know they can be a lil pricey) axles and other parts you would need for any other high hp swap? personally i think that 6gc's should have been rwd, because we all know that REAL sports cars are rwd. anyway i dont get how the beams motor would be any harder to install than a 3s-gTe, i mean you are dealing with taking a NA car and keeping it NA, no turbo confusion and less parts to buy, plus they are the same code minus a t so its not like the engine could be really that much different in size or position, if anything the non turbo would have less on it(no intercooler, turbo or piping for those). I am seriously considering this swap in the next 2 years (when i move out and go to college away from the parental units) so if i am wrong on something someone please correct me and give me lots of information. oh yea and back to the original post... i would guess that the 0-60 would be somewhere around 6.2 dont ask me why thats just what i think lol

Hi >smile.gif>

Congrats on getting a SSII/SSIII 6GC with BEAMS engine. It is the most powerful of the normally aspirated 6th gens.

The celica handbook states that your engine has:

Engine Model: 3S-GE VVT-i
Engine Type: Straight (inline) 4 Cylinder DOHC 16 Valve
Displacement: 1998cc
Max Power: 200ps/7000rpm (which is 197hp/147kw according to this site)
Max Torque: 21.0kg.m/6000rpm
0-100 km/h ~ < 8.1s (since a non-BEAMs SSII's time is 8.1 - based on this site)
Compression: 11.0:1
Fuel System: EFI (Electronic fuel injection system)
Fuel Tank Capacity: 60L
Fuel Type: Premium Unleaded (100 RON)
Steering: Engine speed-sensing variable-assist power rack-and-pinion
Engine Oil Capacity: 4.0L (4.5L with filter replacement)
Coolant Capacity: 6.9L

General Info:

Length: 4505mm (177.36 inches)
Width: 1750mm (68.9 inches)
Height: 1305mm (51.38 inches)
Weight: 1210Kg (2668 pounds)
Minimum Turning Radius: 5.5m

Hope this helps.
The two BEAMS motors (redtop/blacktop) are very different in terms of wiring...

I'm curious to ask... aside from those who have done swaps... what makes you think it's easy to do a swap? Who cares if it's 5SFE to 3SGTE or 7AFE to 3SGTE? By the time you get all of the stuff apart, it doesn't matter. One just requires a few more parts than the other, which doesn't make one swap vastly harder than the other. It'll just take a few extra parts. No biggie. Once the engine bay is clear, both platforms are of the same difficulty assuming you have all of the parts needed.

As for the BEAMS... it's a completely different ball-game than a 3SGTE. DLI wiring, VVTi wiring, DLI set-up, completely re-pinned harness... it's gonna be a chore to go through all of the wires, for those that assume engine swaps are simple drop-ins.
