Weight Issues - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #10446 22 posts Started by Anub1s
I look at the GVW of my car and it was 3495 lbs! That is way too heavy for a small car like that. So.... I was wondering what the best way to free up some weight would be without sacrificing too much.

EDIT: I JUST GOT MY FIRST BAR!!! YAY!!! *clears throat* anyways.... thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure 6g's weigh in around 2,600 lbs

hmmmm.... I guess I was looking at the wrong label. Anyways.... what could I do to free up some weight still. I know that it is a light car but anywho... thx

Well you could do a lot, you could take your seats out, take your dash out, besically take everything out but the stuff that you need to drive and control the car with. You could also get a carbon fiber hood, get lighter rims, ive even seen people replace every single nut bolt and screw on the car for lighter ones.

just a few things off the top of my head:

easy things to remove:
spare tire
rear seats
interior panneling
stereo system

harder things to remove:
sound deadining material on the frame
A/C
Powersteering

then theres plenty of parts you can buy that are reduced weight, such as carbon fiber or fiberglass hood and fenders, smaller battery, lightweight wheels, lighter seats, as well as other things

or you could just loose some weight yourself >biggrin.gif>

does any one know how much the back seat is.. like how heavy are they really, thats its going to help at all... an you might as well leave in things like panles an stuff.. an just losse 5 pounds yourself.. thats what im doing.. lol

like kwanza said... its a waste. Take out your spare tire sure... but hwat happens when you need it. Its there for a reason. Reducing wieght just makes your car usually ugly and uncomfortable.
dude my st at the stock point was 2005 lbs >biggrin.gif>
now lighter enkie rims and a lighter carbonfiber exhuast i think i'm like 1980 >biggrin.gif>

the point from my post is there is really not easy way to cut weight without loosing some of the cars functionality, and alot of its appearance, and as stated, you dont gain too much from it, unless of course you go all out, if you do that you could probably cut near to 250 LBS or more.

Make your car drivable by remote control

Actually i have spent countless hours on this as my GT4 was 60 kgs more than the small category in my country and i had to pay $1000+ more for registration fees.

Regarding the weight issue there are no real solutions. Performance wise, lighter wheels and a CF hood would go a long way. btw the GT4 is about 700 pounds heavier than the normal 6gc.
yea taking stuff off to lighten it would do more harm than good. when they made the car the developers weren't thinking, hey lets make it out of heavy material! im pretty sure they researched into the lightest and safest material (also more economical and realistic) for our cars. i mean even the frame support bar behind the front bumper is light as f*&# if you have ever taken it off, but its pretty strong.

the best thing to do i guess is switch to lighter rims, get rid of any heavy subs =p, and don't let anyone ride with you. cf hood would be your next bet. then if u can sacrifice ur A/C. if you want to get rid of your spare tire, make sure u have a tire repair kit in the car (and a pump).

hey whats that link for those doods that made some slow car into a 10 second one by taking absolutely everything off cept the wheels, steering wheel, gas tank, and frame? that was classic
I 'invested' in a lighter girlfriend with better noise reduction. >wink.gif>
Invested?
no woman is evar an investment
