What do you guys think about a club 6gc? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #10544 71 posts Started by boosted_K2
just wondering what everyones thoughts are on creating a North American Club 6GC. obviously the idea of this would be to take the organization of the 6gc community up a notch, creating more sanctionized meets and events, as well as getting club gear made up, such as t-shirts hats decals and such. The other reason to do this is try to increase involvement in the community, and possably get paying vendors and club sponsors. possably a newsletter or other periodic articles would be sent out. its also a way to more personalize the site, put more of a face to the screenname and the car. the down side is there would be periodic fees or dues, maybe annually or bi-annually, of course they wouldnt be anything outragious. *note: the site would continue to be free, the only cost would be to join the club itself.

please give me an honest opinion. frankly theres no point in doing this if you were not going to attend the meets or utilize the sponsors, usually the sponsor discounts are fairly minimal, but the customer service and personalization of the buying experience is much better.

IE: with the 6gc sideskirt group buy im doing right now, vis is kinda of playing sean off saying we'll get your order for you soon whenever he talks to them like they are in no rush to get our order for us, or they just dont have them in stock and are waiting for more to arrive. in general they really dont have much stock for the 6gc besides the zephyr and invader kits a few CF hoods and a few sets of those fenders. in contrast when sean went to place my order for my Border kit for my car, they said they would get on it right away. if 6gc owners were to purchase things on a more consistant basis from the same companies like vis or other manufacturers/vendors, they would be more inclined to carry a larger stock of 6gc parts so the turn around time on orders would be alot quicker.

ive talked to coomer about it in the past, basically hes just very busy, and this is a very large job for us to do, and we really have no idea yet how it would be spearheaded and what direction we'd want to take with it, or who would be the organizers of something like this (please dont volenteer yet, were just tryin to get a feel for how much everyone would be willing to do this >wink.gif> )

thanks guys! thats just kinda my thought on the whole thing. lemme know what you think.

I would be down pending price and whatnot. The problem with meets is location location location. That'd be hard to pull off. I wouldn't be allowed to drive my car very far, but maybe if I met up with someone. I'm 17 and my parents probably wouldn't like me driving a long distance, plus I'm still 'inexperienced' only having my license for a year. That is what I'm told. Draw up some more ideas, I'd like to see some stuff.

This sounds like a pretty cool idea. I sure wouldnt mind joining the club. BUT just like Akimbp said its really depends on the location and stuff for the meets >confused.gif> . I think i can travel a state or 2 if needed. I'm 20 (going on 21 this summer wOOt) and I work for the Hotel business so i can due my part there >biggrin.gif> . Just in case you guys are wondering i work for the Marriott, so there are PLENTY of those around that I can find a place for us to stay at.

That sounds like a really good idea, keep chisling it out to finner points and you may have something, have you posted on Celica.net yet there are a ton of kids there too as you know. But yea like I said I think its a great idea. Going to meets would be hard on me do to the fact that I would see all these body kits and pimped out rides I might start tearing up. If you need a graphic artist for anything I would be glad to help out.
Ya man I would be down with joining a club because it just sounds like fun and just like Akimbo said I would be down pending price and whatnot.

nope i havent posted it on c.net, basically having 2 threads running on the same topic at 2 different places i feel would be unproductive, if someone wants to link this thread to c.net thatd be cool, id just like to keep all the discussion on it here by all means any of them are more than willing to join up if this were to go through.

my thoughts were if we were to do this dispite all the traveling problems, we would divide the club into regions, each region would have a head, the money the club generates would be divided between the club regions for local meets, the money could be used on renting out a lot or a course, or used to purchase things like cones if the consensus would be to do regular autox meets through the club or helmets or something like that. of course being a regional head would mean some pretty strict book keeping and so forth. other ways to generate money for the club would be to make a VHS or DVD from the meets, have members produce and sell various parts (which is already happening) through the club (which would be a good way to advertise)... another problem that may be run into would be charging a very small (like 2 dollar or something like that) fee to set up a GB so that the site could regulate advertising and selling on the site. like i said, this would really make the site more organized. but the downside is it would start attaching money to things, but since there is more money involved, there is more money to go around within the club, making things more regular, and the opportunity to have alot of fun at these meets, making 6gc videos and such, like i said, this is a big project lol

Oooo that'd work great, and maybe a yearly "Club DVD" or something..

sounds like a plan to me >biggrin.gif>

Once again, distance is an issue to me, but I would be very interested. I think its safe to say that many of the members you see on this site who post alot can afford a minimal fee to go to a club meet, and orgonize ways to get cheaper parts. I would certainly be intersted and if it was like 20-30 a year I would still be interested. Any idea what around this would cost it would probobly help alot of people decide?

find out the more populated regions and pick meeting points off decent radius from there. Not sure how the money thing would be handled, but thats jumping to far for now. Are you sticking with "Club 6gn" as the name? Too bad East Coast couldnt meet up with West Coast though >frown.gif> I really like this idea "sticky" this one cause its probably gonna be around for a while.
Im down, how bout a Las Vegas meet. i will be meeting with LatinKraze this weekend and LBCguy. I think vegas is a good meeting area for LA and other large surrounding cities. I would also suggest broadening the club like to maybe all 90's toyotas or only celicas(of all years) or something of the like because i honestly( i hate to say it) but first off there is not enough 6gc's to make it interesting if we put on a show or meet or whatever, second off people would get board really fast, i went to the supra show here and i am a diehard lover but it got old after like 2 hours... ANYWAY... just marinate on what i said and post back
PEACE
Theres the speed way out here as well. Im pretty sure i could book a big suite, at one of the casinos, for a bunch of us if we were to have a huge kick back. The speed way is full of imports and domestics, one friday of every month. It's called mid-night mayhem. For a small fee you get to watch or for a little more you could race your car. This place gets packed during that event. Anyhow, there are also the illegals out here. Vegas is full of stuff to do if your over 21.
It all sounds like a really good idea, But as well i think we should open it up to some other yotas to, cause I dont think there would be enough or a lot of 6th gens in each area that would be willing to pay , or to even go to a meeting place. Im in MD, as for a meeting place around va-dc-md-nj I think O.C. Md would be a good spot, nice open late an active an nice on summer nights, an oh yeah the Ladies.... hehe.. but as for being in the club.. would it only be for like just some extra stuff at meets, an have a col sticker sying "Hey im in this club" i mean other then what we have now like group buys an such.. but im willing to help as in for like setting stuff up an stuff or really what ever.. I dont have the phatist ride, but its a start..lol
I'm down for a club... but how woulld it be split up.. wich states would be grouped together? I have a lot of questions about this... but will ask them when the time comes.. and who will be running each section/group of the club?

Tim, this sounds like a good idea. The only thing that I can see is the age thing. the meets shouldn't be to hard to set up but its getting the younger kids to beable to come to them. But breaking it up into regions is a good idea. As for opening it up to all gens? I duno. I could toss the idea around at the PF meet with everybody that shows up. But i think that it would be cool to have just a 6gc club. We could have a rep at the major shows. But it would be hard to have a national celica club. Even though its do able it would be hard. But I say we start off with the 6gc club idea and see where it goes. But as for a meet thats kinda why we have been doing the PF meet thing. It started as a c.net then it has branched out to all celica sites. But I think this years will have more of a 6gc rep so It could almost be considered the first regional meet. But as of now lets just see how the repsonse is.

I've been waiting for this! I am in, but yes the traveling thing is bad for me.. anything on the East Coast I can handle... but crossing the Mighty Mississippi is gonna be a problem for me. But yeh I am in on this guys, just drop me a line about fees and such and I will proudly "represent" the 6gc club.

The regional divison sounds good, and maybe once a year or every other year to begin with hold a central meet, Like one central location mid US or East coast and West coast central location meets annually. And alter the location say like east coast one year could be atlanta, nexted year, piegon fordge. . . to allow for the younger people who won't be able to travel that far a chance to atleast attend one larger event, although it would complicate things it would always allow for more attendance for people who can't travel large distances because of age, work, and/or school.
I would be up for this also, although I dont like added other toyota's in to it. I am not a total fan of toyota's, I really only like celica's and on top of that like pretty much only 6th gens. I like the idea of an anual middle of the country meet, or bianual. I would be totally up for being a head of a region, I have time for this stuff. I know alot of you dont know me but I have been around here for awhile and I am usually pretty good at stuff like this. I know you said to not go volunteering but I am.
I'm up for it. I definitely wanna do the 6gc gear, and we could do a cafeshops.com deal where you design the tshirts and make a little merchant account and us as members go on there and buy the different merchandise that you put the designs on. It would be good for now until you can actually make your own stuff.

95 Toyota Celica GTDead for now --> Soon to have a 3S-GTE02 WRX --> This is for speed- Borla Exhaust- TurboXS BOV- Custom CAI02 Civic EX- MB Quart Reference 5.25" Components- Rockford MTX 8" Subs in the doors- Alpine Type S Rear Fills- 2x Alpine SWR-1042D Subs in a custom fiberglass box- Alpine F345 Amp for the front doors- Alpine M605 on each Type R- Phoenix Gold wiring- Alpine CDA-9855 Head Unit- Alpine Amp link- 2x Rockford Fosgate 1 Farad Caps- The best Viper 791 alarm install ever
the idea is "Club 6GC" so wed like to keep it 6th gens only. i realize as of right now im ruling myself right out of it. lol but my intension is to get another 6gc coming up here soon. but thats not really the point. dividing it up is something we can do later on, basically we just can designate divisions depending on how many people are from each area, and what kind of distances everyone from those areas can go for meets.

everything is excelent so far guys.

just to compile all our thoughts and possablilties so far we've got:
shirts and apparel from cafeshops.com
SHID can produce DVDs for club videos
big centralized meet (such as Pigeon Forge or vegas)
smaller local meets in different regions
im thinking like 25-30 dollar annual dues
Club 6GC window decals can be made (i have a place thats great with that stuff or anyone else who can do them personally could take ahold of that)
yes, representation at local shows like brian said is GREAT, we could have banners and like displays made up for local shows that would probably be decided regionally.

things to be decided
how regions should be divided
how head of regions are chosen
how the funds are divided
who/how/what should run the club in its entirety

anything i missed?

That seems to cover a lot. Any chance we could get a chat session going soon to try and get a lot of these issues covered fast?

Regions.. Probably 4 or five. Northwest, Southwest, New England, Southeast, and Midwest?

I'd like to say that it's unlikely the Northwest will be a very populated region- but I can't see sticking them into the Southwest due to the fact that all the meets would probably be around the southwest- and if we stuck the northwest in with with the southwest, they'd get screwed over with the meets.

The physical distance to the meets is going to be a big issue. I think rotating the meets between big cities is the best way to do it. Say, meet in Los Vegas, then a meet in LA, then a meet in SD, then a meet in Salt Lake.. or something?

Heads of the region should be simple- people in the region vote during a certain time period (that way there's no.. waiting for that last member to vote). As for the nation head- there might not need to be one. Maybe a "chairman" or something out of the region heads if it doesn't involve much extra work.

Funds divided? Simple. Regional funds go to regional, minus a % that goes to national. Funds are then distributed by a request, permission, paid, reimbursement process.

For instance, if I'm going to be the Southwest 6gc Club representative at a show here in LA and we want the banner out here, but it's stuck in LV. If no one in the club is making the LV-->LA trip, then it needs to be shipped. LV member who has the banner requests permission to ship the banner with club funds (estimating around 7.00)- recieves permission, sends the banner, gets reimbursed. I know the whole requesting permission thing can turn into a pain sometimes, but it shouldn't be so bad with a small organization.

Each region head is also going to have to have a small team- maybe even as small as the head and one other person. If I was a regional head, I wouldn't want to deal with finances at the same time you know?

Uhh, had more, forgot >smile.gif>

quick reply to your first part. actually i see the north west being very active, they already are, lots of people from oregon and washington. not to mention coomer, nat, and four are all up there along with alot of others.

yea im with ya on all those ideas, the only thing i still am uncertain on is as to the percentage of each going to different regions, should the money be divided equally? or by active members in each group? or by contributions? i feel like equally would be best, but at the same time if the Midwest/Cental division has 40 odd members and does like 6 events per year, and the southwest division has 10 members and only like 2 meets, is it fair they get the same ammount? or should those with bigger member #s get a larger portion? that way you get a proportion back of how much each individual member puts in.

i may run to my bank (which is standard federal, i think they are just about everywhere) at some point in the upcoming week or 2 and talk out some details with my consultant up there, see what the process would be for putting togeather an account for something like this.

Woops, didn't know the northwest was so active >smile.gif>

I think regionally, they should just keep their own dues. That way, the 40 odd member one has all of those funds to work with, and the 10 odd one has all of those funds to work with- and then they each give a portion to the "national" fund. Of course, it should probably be like tax brackets. The 40 odd one would pay a bigger portion to the national, while the 10 one paid a smaller (or even got subsidized)

Paypal would be a nice way to handle this? Paying dues and stuff.
