Man it would be cool if you could make.... oh.... nevermind >smile.gif>

There was a thread on here somewhere and I think it was Coomer that posted a link on how to make a fiberglass sub box..... I dunno if that is any help in this situation, but Im just throwing in what I know >smile.gif>
if ya cruise over to Celica.net and check the "for sale" forum, look for a guy named "The X2"

He does carbon fiber work.
has pics too.
He came over from my Probetalk.com forums. Now i guess hes gonna try Celicas
he could prolly give ya some pointers.

NEVERSTOP, dont do it..... Cuz CF is more flexible and some of its types lose the texture.. And you will need special resin, to make the texture of CF visible....

yO neverstop mad props on the ride. You have done some amazing things. I work with CF everyday, in the oddest of places. Micro RC airplanes. I build them for a college project with a defense company. Anyways, if you have any questions let me know. One of the biggest problems we have is lack of ventalation where we work, and CF is toxic. The fibers can get into your lungs and cause some problems. Anyways we have made wings, and fuselages out of CF, but I actually think for workability and final result kevlar is better. However there is the whole problem of your piece being yellow when your done. Anyways let me know if you have any specific questions and Ill try to answer them.

basically I want to make a few interior peices for the car. I am prolly looking at doing overlays for most of the stuff instead of replacement peices so Im not too worried about strength. What I am concerned about is gettin a nice clear look to the clear coat. I have heard about it "yellowing" like what you mentioned.

I can do molds and stuff like that no prob, but am really looking for info on how to get that deep clear look over the CF. can you clearcoat it like over paint?

The way we do it is buy making the female mold. covering it with a non-stick plastic and waxing it. This gives that side a very shinny look after the epoxy has cured. the only problem with using the female mold is that you will need to use a vacuum bag to make sure the CF holds to the mold. The side against the mold comes our really crisp and the back side is matted do to the use of breather clothe and peely plie (sp?) to absorb the excess epoxy.

could I get around the vacuum bag with doing a male and female mold? with the CF layer inbetween? or do I have to do the vacuum technique?

maybe, you would have to experiment with the amount of epoxy you use. We try to remove as much extra as possible because we want light airplanes. if you use both and make sure to remove as much epoxy as possible or enough as you see fit it should work. I would be concerned with wrinkles, but if you have worked with glass this isnt much different, its just getting the weight and type that you want. Bidirectional, uniaxial etc.

btw, if the male and female dont work and you need to vaccuum bag Ive heard that a food saver works really well. lol

Go to www.selectproducts.com they have videos if you're serious. I've got "the art of plexi" and "fiberglass works" and "routers"

They're great videos, and they sell all the products you'll need.

I actually just laid up a wing out of a kevlar carbon mesh, and I started thinking that I could make some pretty cool stuff for my car out of this stuff. Well ya got me thinking anyway Neverstop. LoL
