So I decided to go to a party. When I got back there were foot prints up and down my car and a dent in the roof. This was two days before I was getting my alarm installed.
Yarg.
So I pulled out the ceiling trim and now I got just bare metal... I know the standard practice is to "hammer it out." But I don't want to start hammering without some advisement. Will it pop right back out? Should I just take it to a repair place?

Do those suction puller things actually work?
i wondered the same thing before...

My mechanical engineer friend said the suction cups work for large, shallow dents. I'm suprised, most stuff "as seen on tv" sucks. I guess I'll be trying that.
thats exactly why i didnt buy them... if its on TV, it sucks...
tell me about it, my dad bought one of those vacuum packers and now we cant even clip a bag of doritos shut, u have to friggin seal it.
If the dents arent creased, than get a rubber mallet, and a hard plastic hand sander base (the black palm grip for sandpaper) put the palm sander part on the paint side of the dent, and lightly try to tap out the dent from the inside with the rubber mallet.
the dent things do work...but, if there's even a slight crease in the dent, no dice.
Cool Raek. Since I can borrow one from a friend, I'll try the easy, non-invasive approach first (sucking). Then if it doesn't work I'll bring out the big guns.
Just push it with your hands. if it goes into place then its o.k. if it doesn't, no kind of plunger will fix it and you will need to take it for repairs.

If the metal is not creased, you can use a heat gun to work the dent out by hand. You have to be careful when you do this though because you can scorch your paint. Take the heat gun and heat up the outer edges of the dent. When it's good and hot go inside your car(before you do anything make sure the headliner is already out)and work your hands over the dent from the outer most part of the dent to the inner part of the dent. Keep working at it like that util the dent is completely removed. If you try getting the dent out like this make sure you are keeping a close watch on how the paint is reacting to the heat. This method works well on areas such as hoods and doors but I have only done this on cars just before painting them.
