arent the kyb's the same as the shocks on my celi cause if so.. why get them?
kyb - 6G Celicas Forums
well they are a little bit better then stock.. when you remover the stock ones you can see how much thinker the kyb's are.. and you should get them if your struts are blown... only good reason to get them.. they are better and coast less then OEM sturts.

KYB GR-2 are the same as stock shocks. They'll feel a lot better because they're new. If you're on a very limited budget, they're better then friding on old stock shocks. If you can spend a little more, go for an upgrade. If you look on the strut housing, it is actually engraved KYB

I have a GT and mine didn't say kyb when I took em off...mabye I'm not very observant though...but I'm prettty sure they didnt.
Kyb isn't engraved on the insert, it is actually engraved on the strut housing. Its small and you have to clean off the strut. I would show you guys, but its not worth the effort to rip apart my suspension
Now the question is, have the struts changed any since last decade...

Well I installed shocks last year on my 99gt. and had lots of trouble putting them on. First of all I had to open up my old shocks and fit the replacement kyb shock in the toyota strut.( which is also from kyb) they just didn't fit right the replacement.
Shock was too small for the strut. I had to put washers to the shock in place. And the icing on the cake was trying to close the top.
cause the original strut is a shock on its own I had to take apart the shell to replace my shock but the top of the strut is not a screw on cap like kyb supplies in the box and you'll see that you will have trouble putting them on. I had to weld my top cap in place cause at that point me car was unrivaled after taking taking apart me original shock. What a pain in d ass! My advise, get full struts no replacement cartridges.
but after all that head ach they still cartridge still moves around in the original strut but the car drives better that stock.

He is talking about the front, mine was the same way. But my inserts just slid in and screwed in the same way the old ones came apart. I didn't have to weld anything.
Second that... my inserts just screwed in. Getting the OE strut inserts out took a bit of work, but there was no welding.
