My engine runs really hot. I just painted my heat shield and the paint is burning up. I used the 500* paint. The engine should not even reach really above 300*. Does anyone have this problem of the engine running so hot. I am thinking about going to get a performance radiator, and then an intercooler when i get my supercharger. Also an oil cooler. Does anyone have these products, if so please discuss the pros & cons for me. Specifically the performance radiator and where and how do I hook up an intercooler into my front vador.

i know when i had the 5s, it would heat up so bad the hood would feel like it was on fire. but the temp gauge never said anything was wrong.
Yeah mine feels like it gets really hot but the temp gauge never says anything is wrong with it.
Don't make the same mistake I did though...my temp AND oil gauge didn't say anything was wrong....soon after I had a bad rod bearing due to lack of oil and excessive heat...and a bad engine! Just be cautious and keep your eyes pealed for anything unusual while you're driving.
Doesnt the GT stock have an oil cooler?

you can find oil coolers in several cars in junkyards

the 5sfe runs on the hot side.
just keep checking your coolant and oil levels and youll be fine.
on hot days i can see tons of hot air coming out of my hood vent.

GREAT!!! I knew i wasnt the only one, so i know i dont have major problems. the question is now, i gotta find a way to cool it all down. so what do u think of the new radiator, and intercooler, and performance oil cooler? will it work?

My 5sfe must be running a lot cooler than yours- and I run it pretty hard too.. weird?
Right now i have no thermostat in it.. I bought a failsafe and it is to big, (autozone). So i went to autopride and got a different brand and it is still to big.. I cant seem to install it. They are the right ones though this i know.. any ideas...
That's true. The heat shield will always run way hotter than the rest of the engine. I've seen a few people with painted heat shields but i havent asked what type of paint they used.
just get the thing powdercoated... it will last alot longer and look better.. and they have high temp stuff for it. otherwise there is a higher temp paint out there think its 1200 but not sure

i might just go ahead and be crazy and get it chromed. my new engine should be comming in soon and thats gonna be chromed too. the hardest thing is im trieing to find a chrome alternator.
anyhow back on topic. im having a hard ass time putting in my thermostat.. i got too brands and they wont fit for the 5 sfe engine. i dont get it.. they are the right part numbers but they are too big...............

um.... just a little FYI chrome is one of the stupidest things you can do to engine parts... chrome retains heat reallly really bad... if your already having a problem with heat u will diffenetly NOT want to do chrome
edit: and you might wanna get that thermastat back in there.. its kinda important >

i had no idea, thanx....... yea that is right about chrome,, i think im just gonna give that 1200 degree paint a little try.. any ideas on why my thermostat wont go in???????????????????

Powdercoat is NOT a solution for hi-temp applications. It will begin to soften at about 375deg. We powdercoat our race wheels and the heat transferred from the brakes will get the wheels hot enough to soften the powdercoat. They get so soft the brake dust will become imbedded in them. They have to get completely stripped, inspected, and recoated after ever race.
