if i remove my cat will this trigger the check engine light to come on and if so can i reposition the 02 sensor so that it does not go on
nah, there will just be less cat hair and furballs on your cloth >tongue.gif>

nothing major... my toyo dealer knocked out mine
wait isnt it illegal for them to do that? i just want to know if my check engine light will come on. and what will i have to do about that 02 sensor thats connected to it
Since your vehicle has obd 2 the check engine light will most likely go on. It did on my 96 anyway. It will set a code for the catalyst being inefficient or something like that. Damn downstream o2 sensor.
the 94-95 version don't have that do they? Also, your exhaust will smell like a rotten egg.
damn, i was gonna gut my cat, but i forgot about the smell. oh well i took out my resonator yesterday and replaced it w/ straight pipe and got a high flow muffler. I guess that good enough for now. Any ideas on what else i can do?
A hi flow cat? Do they actually work?
From what I have read a hi flow cat, despite what many claim, only produces 2-3 HP gains. I'd say probably not worth the $, but thats just my opinion. The only reason I wanted to gut my cat was for the extra sound, but it also sacrifices some low-end torque and the only HP gains would be so high in the power band and so small of a gain that it really wouldnt help any, since the celi redline at about 6400 or so.
Well, I don't want the cat stealing 5 hp anymore (roughly) but I don't want my car to smell like **** either. If a new hi flo cat gets me 2-3 hp, I'm all for it.

And it should't have any effect on low end torque unless you get too big of an inlet outlet on your new hi end cat- or you do something wierd when you remove the cat.

I'm interested to know tho, if the hi flo cats smell like ****, or do they smell like a real cat?
So wait, with no cats your car smells like crap???
Yeah, my car has no cat, and it smells just fine. A bit loud to the point where my interior panels have all rattled loose and I can't talk on a cell phone on the freeway, but no bad smell. >biggrin.gif>

New Toyota project coming soon...
so then what do i do about the check engine light
Has anyone made any modifications to their resonator?

I have a straight pipe from my header back to a muffler...no cat and no resinator...sounds fine and dont smell to bad...noticed a big gain in power too wish my clutch isnt bad so i could still feel the power i felt when i first got it all put on. >frown.gif> but its still cool.
I know I have to have a catalytic converter, and the Inspection place said I had to have the resonator. But I was hoping to swap it out with a hi flow or something.. Does anyone know of anything like that? Would it add more sound to my exhaust?

WHAT ABOUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW DO I GET IT TO GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not sure about how to get the check engine light to not go on but I was thinking that maybe with an intake, and a leaner air fuel mixture the sensor may not read the cat inefficient and set the light. Not sure if that would work though. They make o2 simulators for hi performance cars but not for ours. If you are good with wiring you may be able to get a universal one to work. Good luck.
It should be fairly simple to get an O2 simulator to work with a Celica, you'd just need an ECU pinout to determine which wire supplies the ECU with signal, and connect the other wires as per the simulator's instructions. (Ones I've seen have at least one power connection and a ground.)

A link that may help...

(DIY instructions, note that the ECU connections in this article will NOT work on a 6g Celica and I take no responsibility for any foolishness.)

thanks but ill think ill just pul the light bulb from behind the dash
now the question is ...... how do i get to that light bulb
ok well i gutted the cat yesterday and it sounds great not to loud, and doesnt smell at all. ive also notced some more power as well maybe i unlocked 3-4 more horses my e.c. light never came on which is a plus too thanks for all the help guys
