neither of mine have a light around the igntion key barrel.
to make ur clock a different color you have to pull it apart and use a colored film to cover it (the inside)..... its very easy the hardest part is buying the film everything else is right there

if you use subject tabs cut them in half at the sticky part. unfold them and tape them on. i used two or three to cover the whole clock and get my desired color

Last 3 pics starting with the 1st the circles display locations of each LED there is also one seperate in the defroster (seperate piece)

Second picture is the backside showing locations to remove the plastic covers.

and last picture shows the first soldered LED

i will have complete pics when I finish...

About the how-to article, the photos simply were sooooo blurry that I couldn't even tell what was what, so I emailed sapperk and I'm waiting on a response, hopefully with better pictures. >wink.gif>

New Toyota project coming soon...
Coomer, can you post a text only how to for now? no? too confusing?
defgeph can you make a how to how to change the clock with pics and better instructions?

how many of the LED's did you have to by to do your whole climate control? I saw the pics, they look good but are they bright enough?

They are bright enough... in total there where 8 LEDs soldered to the board, 3 lamps that twisted off, and one which was seperate inside the defroster.

I might add two more LEDs on the board to make it even brighter.

The picture doesnt do it justice but heres a 80% completed test pic....

Just to give u an idea of why this pic doesnt do justice just look at the Headunit, believe me when i tell you in real life look those rings around the knobs are bright.

Dude that is so bad azz. I really want to get a full on write-up on how you did that. The pictures are nice but I would like some total info on all that was involved. You rule dude and that is exactly what my next project is going to be. >bowdown.gif>
Adjust your shutter speed on the camera to stay open longer. That'll help with the low light situation. I think the landscape setting has a pretty long exposure time.

you need to have at least 4 main leds to get the climate control really brite.
otherwise the lighting is all scattered

thats my old climate control and clock. I havent started my other climate control or clock. but I did go to toyota today and I bought the ignition light assembly

hey dmvinny how did you wire your led's ?

defgeph

I will return one day.
The normal LEDs on the board where just wired straight to the circuit board. The 3 Lamps (backlight) I used the ground off the circuit board, and ran a seperate wire off the resistors into 1 main wire which is hooked up to the interior lights from the cigarette lighter...

defgeph how much was the ignition light assembly...

Yea its easier to run it externally especially when the resistors are on..

One idea for the light ring is dome supervision...if your not familiar with it it is used in alarms and newer cars when you open the door handle of your car the dome light stays on for XX amount of seconds.

So what i am suggesting is a few relays with a delay, once you open the door to your car of course your dome light turns on, so you splice into your dome light wire, and than hook up a few relays to give you a surge delay.
thats good idea ........... to bad the parts are on back order. The parts guy at toyota says they'll be in next week. hopefully!

>mad.gif> I hate back order >mad.gif>

So where do the resistors go? Can someone post a pic of the resistors and where they go.
