trying to set up a 3s-ge swap - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #11361 29 posts Started by Digndoug
First, has any one done this, or do they just go right to the 3s-gte?? also, gt tranny will bolt right up, but i was told, or read that it wont handle that much power?? its only 177 hp, an 150 trq? is that to the wheel or crank? also what else would i need besides gt engine mounts?? Thanks

also does any one know where else, i could locate, a harness an comp??

try and find a ssII or ssIII clip. You will be able to use the tranny that comes with it...which is better than the GT Tranny, and it will include almost everything required for the swap

Good luck finding an SS clip... no company I know of sells those clips.
well, has anyone done this before, or am i going to be the first, also I will most likley be selling an auto tranny fromt he 3s-ge if any one might be intreseted like in a few weeks...
there is someone at Celica.net doing either an SS-III swap or a Beams swap...they will be able to help you the bext when done, probably.
Im kinda suprised that not that many people do or have done, or loo into the 3s-ge swap. Yeah its less power, an its a turbo, so you loose the cool solunds, bvut really its a great engine, also more reliable, an should be a lot cheaper then the 3s-gte swap. I mean your cutting out the turbo, intercooler, all the piping, also timers an blv an yeah... makes more sence to me.

hey, im still trying to set up this swap, from an st, all i would need is gt motor mounts? corect? Thanks
I dont think the mounts just bolt in... They would need to be rewelded in.
if anyone is interested in the mr2 engine 3rd gen u can buy one with ecu tranny engine and everything for 3,500 and they will install it for u for just $500 not bad if u live in the area http://www.paautoracing.com/

ok, a few other questions, that i just wanna make sure about. ok first .. The gt tranny will work, an im gunna be going crazy with power, so no need for anything for alot of power. I was thinking about getting a limited slip, so then i would just use a gt lsd, correct? also for like clutch gt right. OK, now for a tune up an ex... sence the 3s-an 3s-gte are the same block, i could use parts from say autozone, that are made for the 3s-gte right, or no. like oil filter, belts an stuff.. Thanks for any info

Well this discussion is really difficult to follow, so lets sum it up a bit.
1. The 3S-GE engine is more powerful (170ish bhp) but, that kind of power is not really insane as described by someone.
2. The 3SGE swap makes a lot of sense and the engine is very- but very- reliable. My Curren never gave me any probs in the 5 years of abuse that i have it. (oh and its a JDM, so it was abused for 3 years before i got it with 100k km on the clock)
3. The engine block is the same.

My advice: get the clip so you have everything. As for clips, you can get them easily but since the engine is not high power it doesn't make any sense in importing such clips in the states but there are millions of used or damaged 6gCelis around the world especially in NZ and Australia.

The problem that could arise is with emmissions.
hey, for this swap, ok, im guessing my fuel pump is not going to work, iv heard of using the supra fuel pump?? is that what i need, and will it fit, and if there is anything else that i may have forgot. also dont the gt mounts just fit right in?? someone said welding, is that the case or what?? Thanks

also sorry for bringing this thread back up, but it made more sence then starting a new one...

well say i have it already...... >rolleyes.gif> i guess ima need to check for those few hard to find things.... any idea on numbers for the tranny and mounts that i will need or that will fit up.. I asked a guy i think i can get them from, but he said that it would be easier if he had numbers to look for?? I have no clue, mabey year an somthing..
any one, still need some info, if ya could help??? also, to do a few things before it goes in, i was thinking about repace the valve cover gasket, aslo mabyre the head just cause... any other sugestions..
Those parts will be very hard to find... but i believe many 3SGTE parts should work, such as various gaskets and stuff. As for part numbers and various parts... well... you'll probably NEVER find any ignitors or other parts like that... and I doubt other versions will work either. Part numbers are hard to come by unless you find someone who has the car, and can get them for you. It's not a good idea to buy just a long block... you'll basically be working in the dark. That's a big big mistake.

ok, i think im getting more woried and cunfused... your saying if i bought just a long block.. .. I bought the whole engine with everything attached, the full uncut harness, and the ecu... also the tranny is there an on.. the only problem is that i have an auto tranny, and my car is man,The reason im saying use a gt tranny is because, A. I know a guy i can get one from for really cheap, which means no looking finding spending crazy money, also no shipping.. also im going to get the mounts from him too.. your saying the ignitor and all, Im like 90% sure thats all there still on the engine.. Is there anything else, that you might say i would need that im missing... Thanks alot again
