I am about to begin my quest into swapping the celica. My first thought was to get the 3s-gte like everyone else and laugh at every civic that comes my way. hahahaha. But that would be the easy way out. i want to be able to kill other racers without going turbo. so i was thinking about the 3S-GE. Beams if possible to obtain. i wanna know if this engine has a chance against the GSR engines.

ya it does, but its a more complicated swap... i believe there is 1 personr ight now doing the swap
is there a reason you want non turbo? if your gonna swap, just go with the 3s-gte... more power, and alot more people to help you along the way....

ok, first off, the 3s-ge should be easier then the gte, because first off, you getting rid of the turbo an intercooler piping, an anything else that goes along with the turbo. I dont know about the beams though, an the 3s-ge should be able to beat a gsr, not tear it up or anything, im tyring to set it up now. not the beams though.
going turbo does sound great. but having turbo means more maintenace and having to go trough more BS from cops and authorities. blah blah blah. i havent completely ruled out going turbo by the way. i'm just looking for alternate routes. Cali isnt the greatest place to go turbo or even start messing with the car. besides, the thought of having a non-turbo and kicking ass. And to have better times and out run a turboed car. i like that better.

i been considering the 3sge over the gte simply cuase it's esyier to hide... not many people are going to know that is not the stock engine.. but they see a turbo under the hood it might just not seam right..
i think the ge would be a bit more simpler to swap just cause the lack of the turbo .. but i haven't done either so i can't really tell..

I'm have concidered swapping the 3SGE as well. But i dont know shirt about swaps.....so i'm readin up.
I'm considering a swap in another year and a half or so and i would really like to have the BEAMS engine but it sounds like there isnt enough info on the swap so i got to thinking about swapping for a 4a-ge blacktop and turboing it(not sure if anyone has done that or if it is even advisable). it would be cool to have a 6 spd and rev a lil higher and you throw a turbo in the mix! *WOW* i think it would be quick but i have no info... lol my post was basically pointless

hell... you could run a 3s-ge off a 5s-fe or quite possibly even a 7a-fe ecu
i read somewher else on the site not long ago at all that 3s-ge's are really rare- and because of that, pricey. Also, the BEAMS wiring is much more complicated. Evidence of this is the fact that nobody has completed this swap. I tire of those who are like- if you are gunna go that route why not get the 3sgte... the first reason that comes to my mind is that the car is FWD. That and its like excuse me for being different... lol...

well, are you all talking about the beams 3s-ge, or the older one? cause i thought the beams was the new one, with like alomst 200hp, what about the older one that produces 180, that shouldnt be nearly as hard...
does any one have the years with the amounts of power? Like i mean a 2nd gen, im gunna guess, is the 180hp, 1992 or somthin? any one wanna help. an pics.. possible.
if you find a non vvt 3sge then it wouldn't be tough on wiring.... probably the same wiring as your 5s-fe
how much would the whole swap cost you? engine and everything $6k?

all I have to say is dont be cool trying to be different... and if you think its hard finding parts for a 5s-fe, try getting stuff for a 3s-ge, and even harder for a beams 3s-ge considering it was made for all of 2 years... here in the US there is an abundance of aftermarket parts for a st185 3s-gte. If you get a 3s-ge, you will probably never be able to make it anymore then it is when you put it in the car.
Personally i think the 3SGE is a waste of time and money. Reasons:
1. 3SGE maxes out at 170ish bhp. Afriend of mine has invested a lot and has it now at 197bhp
2. 3SGE beams is at a bout 200bhp. But there aren't alot of things you could do with that for more power. Some mods (induction kits) that exist are very pricey without that much gain.
So the best solution i have heard so far is to use the ST205 engine block but go with a ST185 turbo setup like Neverstop is planning to do.
n/a 4 cylinders can run faster than mid to low 14's...... just a simple h22 swap into a civic h/b can run a mid 13....... and there was an n/a b20b integra up the street (sold it) that ran 12's (has videos)..... you can build n/a, just depends on the money you want to spend
but if just 1/4 mile is your goal why? just do something easier & cheaper
thanks guys for the help.
