Ok i am defently will be doing a 185 swap soon.
But i would like to know ways to improve this engine for more power so far ive came up with this
AMF to MAP sensor conversion.
Upgrade turbo with a ct20b to ct26 or a t3/t4
FMIC instead of the TMIC
3" down pipe
increase boost
upgrade fuel pump
that what ive came up with so far. Now i really want to replace the internals with better ones'
Does any one have any more options of how todo this? like where to get better pistion, rod's and etc..
Also if any one has more ways to improve this engine please share
Thanks
You cant just swap an AFM for a Map...ur either going to have to go stand-alone ECU for that, or your going to have to convert to an ST205 ECU. How to do that swap, im not sure. The CT20b is a good upgrade, it'll run you about 600-900 for a good turbo. Or buy a used CT26 and rebuild upgrade it. It'll end up costing about the same.
FMIC to TMIC...kinda doesnt convince me. You dont need a huge IC...and with the FMIC you will get better cooling affect but ur lag will be increased. The downpipe will help flow and de-cat everything. Emissions tests wont like you tho.
Increasing boost...depends on your turbo. On the CT26 your have boost cut around 12-13psi. So becareful with that, disengage it. The CT26 wont boost more than 15 and even thats pushing it. If you increase the size of ur turbo, you can boost less pressure and get equal power.
If you get a fuel pump you probably will want to get a SAFC and some dyno time. The dyno is ur friend. And remember your upgrading your stock fuel pump...so getting a stronger fuel pump isnt a huge upgrade since your running bigger injectors.
With your internals...unless your boosting more than 25psi your really not going to need stronger internals. The 3s is a very strong reliable engine and unless ur looking for big power (400hp) your probably not going to need to do this. Unless of course they are in sorry shape and were beat on the life of the car.

Now would it be better just to get a T3/T4 turbo insteand of the ct20b?
or would it be better to get the ct20b.?
For the internals i will probley be getting forged pistions and rod's.
Why don't you go with the stock CT26 for now?
You can boost up to 15 psi which is a lot of boost.
If you are going to change internals...you might as well go with a bigger turbo so you can boost in the 20+ and be able to reach 400+hp. But you are going to need a lot of tuning.
Its up to you though. The setup you want is going to cost you an arm and a leg. Honestly I would just buy the GT4 on ebay...it would almost cost the same.
Instead of FMIC maybe go with the ST205 Water to Air intercooler, unless you want to go 400+ hp.

Oh and it also seems that you want to make the ST185 into a ST205.
Wouldn't you rather get the ST205 front clip. Its on ebay for $3200 and its well worth it. You even get the hood and bumper.
Also the ST205 comes with better internals, MAP sensor, CT20B, and increased boost. Everything you seemed to want to do to the ST185.
Plus you get the amazing W/A intercooler, with an anti-lag system and you wouldn't need to go FMIC.
But it all depends on how much power you want.

Are you sure its not that "expensive"? Stand alone and internals itself can cost you up to $8000+. Well if you think its not expensive you must have a lot of money...damn rich bastards..hehe..jkjk
Anyways if you wanted to go 25+ boost then why are you even considering the CT20B or T3/T4, those won't achieve your goal...you have to go with something bigger.
For the 185 you will have to change internals because it can't handle 25psi, but I think the ST205 can possibly handle close to that.
AWD isn't impossible, but it has not been very succesful. There has been a lot of alignment or frame issues that make the AWD hard to handle, dettered from high speeds, and not reliable.
For AWD you can get a rear clip and front clip from the ST205 anyways and use the chassis on that and fit it onto your chassis, which is hard.
Nothing is impossible if you have money, thats what everyone on the forum says, but if you have the money for everything post pics on your progress.
What do you mean by aftermarket???
There isn't much aftermarket for the ST185 either, but I am not sure what you mean by aftermarket?
If anything the ST205 has more aftermarket than the ST185, but thats in Japan. And a lot of 185 parts is exchangeable with the ST205 so either way aftermarket is a problem.
If you are not worried with costs ST205 is your best bet and with aftermarket...cost doesn't matter and get parts from japan.
What kind of aftermarket parts though?
Only the WRC has the Anti-lag system...as far as i know.
Also, the ST185 internals have been known to handle 25 but for how long, im not sure.
25lbs on what turbo? 25lbs means absolutely nothing because you dont even know what turbo you want. 25 on one turbo can be 20 on another. The larger the turbo, the lower the pressure.

Like I said 205 front clip with bumper and hood is on ebay for 3200 which is a great deal.
