Ok...I'm gonna head up to Bellingham tomarrow and take a look at this engine.

Already checked with the seller and it's a full clip so it has all the essentials:

-ignitor
-maf unit
-ignition coil
-Intercooler
-resistor pack
-turbo pressure sensor
-uncut harness
-ecu
-throttle cable

He said it definately isn't a looker (of course it isnt its almost a 12 year old engine) but it has good compression. Was leakdown tested and has a start up warrenty. What do you guys think? Is $1,900 worth it? Or should I offer alittle less? Only has 52,000 so I figured a complete tune up on this thing and it will run like new. Any input is welcome!

Edit: Forgot to add that it comes with mint (bad paint but no dents) JDM fenders, hood, and bumper...which I figure I could get some good cash flow from if I put them on ebay...Just saw a used JDM st185 hood sell for $300!

ummm....body panels, dude the 205 is much harder to swap than the 185.

The little more money to do the ST205 will smack him in the face when all the money adds up.

Go with the ST185 and sell the body parts.

makes sense to me too, but clips with good body panels are hard to come by as far as i know....
I'm doing the ST185 swap...there's no way I'm gonna do the 205. I've been researching since August...thats when I decided to buy one...It's taken me this long because i've been really picky about the engine I want to buy. I decided on this one because the guy is pretty reputable, he has good guarentees, and the engine is in great working order...so I don't think I have much to worry about if I buy this. Trust me I've done my research! Haha..thanks for the input guys...keep the opinions coming!

yea thats a little bit high for a 185 clip,...but if the panels are in good shape you can sell them on ebay EASY and make some $$ back...that brings the cost down to about right... >wink.gif>

Thats hardly high for a clip.

yeh thats about right for a clip.
What makes the st185 swap easier than the st205 swap? I thought they would be pretty much the same amount of work.
The ST185 was exported to America, so you can go to the local toyota dealer and get any part for the engine you need. The ST205 was exluded from the USDM, therefore, getting parts for it would be very difficult, as you will have to order them from Japan or elsewhere, which would be very costly, and time consuming. The wiring is supposedly easier , and it is cheaper to get to 250hp with an st185 (by engine upgrade), than buying a 205 clip.
th swap itself isnt harder, but upgrading and maintaining is. Finding any documentation on a 205 would be pretty hard, such as a toyota service manual.
