Im not sure what to do with the exhaust - i want a 4-6 inch back because it sounds mad!!!!!!! - but i heard that it affects the performance - mainly the torque............... im not sure what to do! >confused.gif>

It doesn't.

It is the exit to the system.

What it will affect is the sound. The sould will more be louder than note change itself.

What affect performance is the muffler make up, internal pipe size and flow characteristic and also on delivery piping from the header to the muffler itself.

If you have a chance, check out turbomagazine.com for the muffler shoot out there had

Having a better flow does not mean good performance in general.

Sometime engines need a little back pressure (depending on vavle overlap), to get more bang out of the engine.

It is up to you.

Sometime noise can get to loud and sometimes the cops doesn't like it.

I have Subaru 1986 model with a magnaflow wideopen muffler with a 4" tip with resonator and no silencer, except when needed.

That thing is loud. After some town drive, sometimes you feel that you can rip your head of.

Test the muff out if possible and make a choice.

Also, since you might have your resonator and silencer, it may not be that noisy.

my cuz's prelude has a 6' - shakes the windows on my house when he bombs past!!!

I doubt that i'll have a chance to test b4 i buy, i know a place which does custom tubing - what do u suggest?

I was thinking stainless steel to mid box - but not sure of diameter of tubing??

As I said, it depends on if your resonator and silencer is in.

Ok, what car do you have?

Since you may have the ST or GT w/ 7A or 5S respectively, I would recommend, depending on if you like racing or driving fast, a customer 2 -2.5" pipe for both models expecially the GT model.

If you get a 4-6" tip, get and insert for it that can silences it. You can go stainless steel from muffler to resonator to header.

Ok. Great.

A custom 2.25" -2.5" will do.

Just remember to get a little bit out of the tuning, take a look at my post. Read All and tell me what you thing.

You do not have to go the turbo charge way, but this is simple tuning cheaply.

Bigger isn't always better in terms of exhaust. Generally yes the more free flowing the exhaust is, the higher max horsepower the engine can produce. The only thing is when you free up the exhaust sometimes you run the risk of losing low end torque as a result of decreased back pressure. Especially in our engines that aren't exactly powerhouse's you want to get the right mix of maintaining some back pressure for low end torque and having a freer flow for high rpm horsepower. Unless your on the highway all the time you may want that very desirable torque for acceleration purposes.
I went with 2 1/4" cat back, i think any bigger would have had a negative effect...it'd be like the emissions from vw bug passing thru the grand canyon >wink.gif>
i think that i'll go with the 2.5" pipes, and a 5 - 5.5" end.
