Paint interior or dash kit? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #11816 25 posts Started by Pali_playa
what do u guyz think? painting dash can look nice but i like the aluminum dash kit as well (yes i dun have a 6gc yet, but there are big plans for the one i get >biggrin.gif> )
the trim kit is usually not cut out correctly, to my knowledge. But i painted my inserts in silver.
If you are looking to bring the interior back to stock when you plan on selling it, then a dash kit is the easiest way to do that. The problem with dash kits is there aren't enough pieces IMO which makes it looks kind of underdone. Of course, I'm in the process of painting my entire interior so mine is obviously a little overdone. >wink.gif> It's all preference but you could try painting the pieces you want and then laying a dash kit over it.
dash kit all the way

not a fan of painted interiors myself
dash kit look in my profile for mine.

Painted! That way everything fits nice, and you can get any color you want. I painted mine in a marble, shiny, green color. Dark green, Jewel Green I believe was the exact color.

well if i painted it it would be aluminum color so im still stuck, to me the paint looks cheezy if its not done right

now doggy's painted dash i would love to have
Ya paint, what color is your car? Silver seems to be tastful looking, just remember to coordinate your colors >wink.gif>
Mines painted silver, I like it better then I think the dash kit would have looked, and its 10$ vs 100
I'd paint it. Hahah I did paint it actually. My interior is a two-tone silver and candy/blue. Paint is nice because you aren't limited to the color selection of a trim company. Usually they've got squat to choose from. Just check out my profile to see mine. And before you do anything check out doggy's, if he's still got any pics of his up. Doggy's interior is beautiful. >wink.gif>
Hey flipside97ltd - real nice interior you got there.
That's class!
Paint it, i think the trim looks ghey... imo...
i love 3t's interior....but im not looking to go all out like that. price isnt a worry, id rather have good style than money in the bank!
id say pay a shop to paint it for you.

ive seen painted ones that went wrong and they looked very bad. right now my interrior looks very classy (see profile) and i wouldnt want to **** it up with spray paint.

Mine's painted silver and I'd say go w/ paint but you have to do it right. All my stuff has 3-5 coats+ clearcoat. I probably spent about $65+ on the materials (paint and sandpaper mostly) but it looks much better than some of the interiors I've seen around my town of ppl who didnt do it right. Good Luck. Check my profile for pics, although I have about twice as much painted now as I had in those pics.
I just saw this commercial for new Krylon paint for plastics, think its called Fusion. I was considering checking it out. Says no sanding, no primer needed and wont flake off. Then again I dont want to touch my interior now.

sorry for bringing this back from the dead...

all those people that say paint your interior. is your car a daily driver? so how does it hold up (and how long) before you find that it starts to chip and you have to repaint it again?

it just looks really crap when it starts to chip... or are there stuff you can apply on it to prevent it to chip? (and i thought clear coats make it softer so it's even more prone to chipping?)

even if you get it painted professionally... wouldn't it chip easily anyway? i mean... it's still paint right?

i dunno... was just wondering what to do... there isn't enough choices for with AM dash kits... and i don't want my interior to start chipping and stuff down the road. are the fitment of AM kits really that bad? even the 2 in the parts database? or are they better than ebay ones?

but it seems like dash kits are install and forget while painting.. you might have to redo everything mayb twice a year?

elvasoshexai, i painted my dash, inserts, speaker covers, the peice surrounding my window switches, and the top of my ash tray, its daily driven, and the only thing thats happened to it was when i was installing it again my gf scratched some paint that wasnt cured fully. If you do alot of layers, and a few good coats of clear coat it wont chip. My friend did his inteiror and did like 15 layers of paint n clear and he can take a key across it and it leaves a minor scartch.

Plus i think painting the interior is cheaper. I paid like $20 or so for the paint and clear coat and did all of my dash inserts, speaker gaurds in the back, shock covers in the trunk.
hm... yea. i kinda wanted to know how easy it was to scratch/chip. because if i do paint it. i dont wanna be overly paranoid about scratching it from everything (like even just putting stuff there or accidentally scrapping it)

and also you know when you have other people in the car they won't be as careful as you.
