Amp Power Wire - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #11952 12 posts Started by hermo69
Hey guys,

I am going to be putting an amp in my car that is 800W MAX. My current setup will probably be 200x2 (2 OHM ) + 200x1 (4ohm) RMS. What gauge power wire should I use? 4 or 8? and what thickness speaker wire should i use?

Thanks guys!
i would do 4

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
4g power, and hopefully your Amp can take it, or Disto down to 8g, I would Run 8g from your amp to your subs, alot more power.

8g good for the power and ground. Mabey it was just me, but I had 18g from my amp to my subs ( just to get em going ), then switch to 8g and could tell a difference. On my new Celi, I ran 10g for Amp Lead, Power and ground, but its only one amp, then 8g from amp to subs.

thats a pretty small amp....if u buy 4AUG wire then it prob wont even fit in the power slot and ur gonna have to cut ur wires newayz....go for 8AUG
You will NOT have an audible difference with 400w between 8 and 4 gauge. It is nice to have 4ga. for a bigger install in the future though.
Thanks for the info guys! Lets assume that I am not going to be adding anymore amps then I should technically be ok with 8G and assuming that I use 8G and its not enough in terms of power handling, what will happen? Blow fuse or "fire" wire >biggrin.gif>
I would use an 4G. I have 3 amps in my car with a 4G going to a monster spiltter with an output of 8G to the 3 Amps. Also, its a really good idea to have seperate fuzes for all the amps in your car. Saves you alot of money in the long run >biggrin.gif>
