Front and Rear Sway Bars - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #12022 24 posts Started by jgreening
I am considering upgrading to the Suspension Techniques sway bars. For those that have them, what are the performance gains versus how much they make the ride punishing. I am trying to strike a balance between improved handling and ride comfort. To illustrate this these are the mods I have chosen (so far):

Performance enhancing:

TRD Springs
Front Strut Tower Brace
Side tower braces

Ride comfort:

KYB GR2
16" wheels (with 4 inch sidewalls)

Thanks for the replies >smile.gif>

I don't think that they make the ride any different, they just make the car handle better in cornering
They didn't affect my ride quality at all, but I can handle a lot better in corners now. The car has much less body roll. >smile.gif>

New Toyota project coming soon...
Thanks guys...sounds like a worthy upgrade >smile.gif>

I'm new to the mod world.. I've got a stock '96 Celica ST 25th Anniv. Where in the line of mods should the sway bars be added? Is TRD the way to go with this upgrade?

MISS THE CELI, BUT...
A larger front bar will tighten up the front and allow you to transition faster; however, you are also going to pay for it in a long corner, as your (now) tight front end will be more likely to push out.

Depends on what you want to do with the car. I have the Suspension Techniques front on my car, but am going to switch to the stock ST front bar (19mm vs. 20mm for the stock GT bar), because I spend more time actually in corner than I do turning into it.
I just bought the st sway bars front and rear..
do they come with the swaybar links ?

If you wat to help cornering then stiffen the rear up first by anti roll and strut bars and then afterwards stiffen up the front

i have a 5th gen celica, but i have the whiteline sway bars. they are really nice. for the 6th gen celica, they appear to have 22mm front, 20mm rear. possibly other sizes, i didn't check very in depth. for my car, i got 27mm front, adjustable 20-23mm rear. i like a lot!

jgreening - 5cm sidewalls! be more precise! >tongue.gif>

I installed my Suspension Techniques front and rear swaybars today. I haven't driven much yet but I can tell the change is pronounced for cornering.

I do have another question though for others who have installed them. I get a hard rubbing sound from the sway bars when I hit bumps. Anyone else have this issue? Did it go away once they were broken in a bit? I am wondering whether they need to be lubed or adjusted in some way.

you should probably lube the mountings.

I had help. The front was pretty much a quick replacement. The rear was not as easy. I did use the old end links and they are in good condition.

iqreening, did you lubricate the bushings? i installed a set on my moms gs300 yesterday and i used white lithium grease on the bushings. you might have to try that.

MISS THE CELI, BUT...
Yea. We used the lubricant that came with the sway bars. I am not sure what it is called. It may be lithium. The creaking has greatly diminished in a week but I still get some creaking in the rear when I hit a sizeable bump. I think they are just breaking in.
