I have been having this squeaking when I turn my steering wheel to the left. Its not all the time, just sometimes. Its not speed sensitive either. Its loud though.. Sounds liek something is rubbing together...

Any ideas??

Try cleaning the discs?

Kinda worked on mine, but depends when you're hearing the squeeling, is it only at low speeds, in the wet, when you first drive the car after a while???

More info will help ppl give you better advice.

Forgot to add that the squeaking goes away when I brake

So i changed my PS belt and it still squeaks. Its not a constant squeak. only when steering whell is turned to the left, but it doesn't happen every time. its not speed sensitive, will happen at 10 or 80. depends when it feels like squeaking. Does not increase volume with speed.

If its axle, or cv boot: What do I want to look for and what side of the car?

edit: It only squeaks when I turn the steering wheel from center to .01-1.5 inches left. Anymore and it stops.. Any idea???

try removing your wheel and throwing it back on again. it might be under tightened, but make sure you pull wheel off entirely and throw it on. and do the star pattern when tightening.

Its your warning pin on your brake pads. When they get low, a medal pin sticks out a little and just rubs against the disc letting you know to change your pads. When you brake, the pad pushes down and you cant hear the pin. Just change your pads and you'll be set to go. Ive heard this on almost all of my cars and its a good and easy fix. >>

Also, It'll only get worse as your pads wear further and further down... making the sounds louder and louder as the days pass... change them before the pin begins to make grooves in your discs.

Actually it isn't the brake pads. If it was they would squeak the whole time.
I just cleaned my engine and the squeak is gone, so I have no idea what was cauding it, but it is gone and I am happy. Thanks you all for the help >>

ahhh... I'd be careful. If it is the pads... the wont squeak all the time.. only when your not braking. If the warning pin broke off or it wore all the way through... then the squeaks will stop. I'd check your pads just in case, you dont wanna groove the rotors. Keep us posted.

I'll look at my pads this week, but why would it be my pads that squeak when I turn left?

I had this same problem it started a couple weeks ago. I took it into a shop and they said that my left brake caliper was locked up so that it would not release. my left brake pads were like bare while my right one is only 10% worn down. Its gonna cost me like $500 to fix this so that sucks cuz im poor. But i've heard from some friends that it rarely is the calipers and that this shop is tryin to scam me. I'm a newb to car repair and **** so does this sound valid?

when I had a problem with noises when turning it was my CV Shaft. When we replaced it the old one had like 3X the play then the one we put in. Then I had no problems at all >>
