Does anyone have this problem. The car runs smooth but, when the A/C comes on the RPMs drop from 900-600 at idle. I also notice that i have to get on my gas alot harder when the A/C is on. On the highway, when the A/C starts i feel the pull. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? >

yeah mine does it too. When you turn the ac on it runs off the engine using a pulley. its just one more thing the little 4 cyl. has to power
I will return one day.
Okay dudes, thanks for the explanation. Makes alot of sense.
Ummm.. thats not really all that true, when i turn my a/c its goes to 700-900 then goes right back to idle....unless my car is crazy you should check you timing, spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and such

AC definately hits performance. Car will also idle a bit lower. Every small car in the world suffers this problem. >

ever wonder why some high end sports cars A/C is not even an option.. cause the take away from the engines performance.. just uninstall the a/c and drive with your windows down .. >

I live in vegas bro, no A/C aint an option. Its 100 degrees by noon.
Maybe it's a Toyota thing cause the same thing happens in my mother's Camry. It's a 4 cyl too though.

My car does the same thing! When I got in '01 it was fine, but the last year its been idling rough whenever the air is on, and sometimes it nearly kills. Yes, you will lose power with a/c, but it shouldn't affect the idle.
I am having an all-around problem with high idle and hard to start when warm, and someone suggested it might be the oxygen sensor. My car is currently at the mechanic's; I will let you know what they found out if it involves rough idle and a/c.
