Shift?? - 6G Celicas Forums

just wanted to know how does everyone shift? at what speed, RPM, hows your pedal play?

I know this is a repost but hey ... we have new members and people do change their style of driving every now and then..

I typically shift at 3,000 RPM or so when I'm just driving normally. When I'm driving to the limit, I'll shift at 7,600 RPM or so. I shift pretty quickly as well...the lightweight flywheel requires that I shift quickly. >wink.gif>

New Toyota project coming soon...
>confused.gif>
Usually i shift at less than 3,000RPM but recently with the remapping of my ECU(redline is at 7,400RPM) and i like to shift at 7,200RPM!!!!!!!! >biggrin.gif>
2,3,4 around 4000rpm on average, redline when driving hard. I have an extrememly springy clutch (my left leg is probably bigger than my right leg now >biggrin.gif>) and a trd quickshifter, so I slam the changes pretty fast. Almost impossible not to get wheelspin going into second and chirping in 3rd..

Well, if i drive normaly i shift about 4000 rpm on all the gears. If i race, or hard driving shift about 6600 rpm, and i usually shif without releasing gas pedal, so i need to shift really quick to put in a gear. And i usually break with gears, so i shift into lower gear and release clutch and at the same time push brake... my clutch wears really quick >smile.gif>

normal drive= shift around 2800 -3200 1=0 0-15mph 2=15-25mph 3=25-45mph 4=45-55mph 5=55-xx and i'll just give her a little tap on the gas and let go real quick press down the clutch **** then slowlly press down the gas and while letting go of the clutch

hard driving= Shift around 5200-redline same speeds as normal driving
but as i'm giving her some gas i'll pop the clutch and shift at the same time..

Doesn't it wear your engine down to not shift when you're supposed to? I feel the car lagging after about 4000 RPM's. I'm not a mechanic but I often thought that if I didn't shift at that time that something would eventually mess up.

HAHA yeah i use to be all nervous about when i shifted trying to hit it right when it got to like 4,000. But i dont think i ever look at the rpm gauge anymore. I only look when im racing my friend devon or something. But yeah ourcars max hp is at 5,500 i beleive.

FlickR2011 Subaru WRX and 1997 3sgte Celica
average days its 3200 and when im going somewhere fast its 4k sad that while going 80 which is mostly what i do on highways car is at 4k already:( wish we had a sixth gear.
Daily driving: 3000 RPM
Racing: 5400 RPM

Max HP you get from an ST is 5200 RPM
I shift when the car wants to_Auto >rolleyes.gif> She shifts at like 3300 daily or so and when I whomp it its like what 5100-5200 one of those.
well to night on the way to work i too her to readling on ever gear .. damn it sounds great.. but don't get as much power .. when she around 52-5600

this is the first time i took GT to redline i was kinda scared to do it cause of all the miles.. but she held up just find with the 200k plus miles she has.. got to love those toyota engine and trannys

Thanks for this post Mac. I really have been wondering about this when I take the ST out for a spin. I can enjoy driving the car more now without having to worry about shifting exactly at 4000 RPM's.
your welcome and next time you have a worry like this just post ... if i can answer your question i'll be more then happy to and if i can't there will be a lot of people her that can answer your questions like neverstop, speedtoe, kuya, doggyand the rest of those guys.. and girls..

Normal driving about 2.5 - 3 k rpm

Enthusiastic driving upto 6.3 k rpm or thereabouts >smile.gif>
I get a smooth shift around 3500, and I do it quick (ZEX lightweight flywheel). When I am racing or being a teenager I usually just shift by my engine sound, I guess its around 5500-6000

shift around 3k in all gears normal and 5k in all gears racing.
