okay, i'm a total noob when it comes to audio stuff. this sounds like a stupid question.. how do you know what kind of amp to buy? like.. is there a formua or something to figure out the wattage required?

example. i want 2 10's .. i'm guessing 200 constant or wutevers. so what kind of amp should i get ?

thanks
what kind of 10's are you buying? it all depends on the specs of the subs. peak power and rms.

former celica owner.
find an amp that puts out the same amount of RMS watts as your subs have.

for example if you have 2 10" subs that are 100 watts RMS each then you would want an amp that is 200 watts RMS.
And look at the impedance, some amps spec go by 4 ohm and some 2.
lets say, i wanna buy the Sony Xplod subs. two 10s (xs-L101p5): 1100w max (each) 300W RMS (each) 4 Ohm.. so what kind of amp am i looking for ??
sony is overpriced junk

thanks to clipsetuner i would recomend kicker comps because they are way cheaper and deliver a better bang for your buck.
Yeah, Sony overrates their subs. You can't power them at 300 RMS- they'll sound like ****.

Go for some kickers or JL- it depends on if you want SPL or SQ.
Yeah don't buy sony, and make sure you get a good amp!
audiobahn subs rule, if you get onces like mine, (2) 10" 900 watt, 450 rms subs, you will be very happy. but i agree, sony subs are not worth the money, your buying the brandname. I recommend a good 600-800 watt fosgate amp, if the subs you choose can take it. the amp makes all the differance.
i dont know about u guys but i like pioneer
