watch the tree and dont foul. dont spin too much. every good run starts off with just enough spin to give you that extra boost. wind out your gear until you think thats all that gear has to offer and quick shifts make a big difference. good luck and let us know how it turns out.
good luck man! Show em what the 6th gens are made of.
going to qualcomm? Ive always been afraid to race my car there with all those fast muscle cars and turbo'd imports >smile.gif> but theres usually a fair amount of civic to make up for that.
yup going to qualcomm, all my friends from work are going so i decided to join them , you going ?
naw probably not tonight, i usually go and watch some of my friends race too, except i dont join in >smile.gif> and most of them working tonight.
one thing that i do is not let off the clutch when you shift. and slowly let the rpms go up as the tree advances then when the lights start coming on then increase pedal pressure. you want to be at about 5500 to 6 grand when you start.
5500-6000 rpm thats to much ill just spin the tires if i do that
I din't think our cars would spin enough to matter. That's a product of under 2500 pounds.
Hold the clotch in and rev to about 2500 or so. Tree goes and drop the clutch. Accelorate threw first fast enough to use the gears full potental yet not spin (3/4 throttle most of the way) shift fast at 5500-5800 RPM anything after that is a waist with our cars.
Shifting this way you should be about to hit 4th in the 1/4 and be at mid 2nd in the 1/8. Good luck.

BTW let some air out of your tires. This will help you to hook up a little more.

Givem' hell man...just go all out its a rush!
WOOHOO!!!! just got back from the strip and im pretty happy with what i did,
first run was (worst)
1/8 time - 11.75
reaction was 1.84 >frown.gif>

after a few more runs i got better and my best time was
1/8 time - 11.54
reaction - .588

and i would usualy average
1/8 time - 11.600
reaction - .755

not bad for my first time out
thanks for the advice
yea when i fisrt hit the drag strip i had my celica for only a week, and it was completely stock so i ad a number of problems such as DUMPING the clutch, i had to learn how to slip the clutch nd get a god reaction time, after my fourth run i had the clutch slipping down pat but m reaction tme was pretty bad, i came to realize thatif yo go right when you see the second yellow light then u gt a VERY good reaction time, butu rsk thechance of fouling if your car has alot of power and traction, but since my car was stock i was getting good reaction times i ran a best time of 16.50 in the 1/4 but i believe that time could have been lower if i would have tried a little harder, but al N all i loe my celica, it does me well!! p.s. Great Job running your car im not sure what that translates into 1/4....but lemme ask yu a ?...whats the point in the 1/8 ? i never really grasped the concept.. good luck next time! >biggrin.gif>

Reason why its a 1/8 mile is because essentially he was racing in the parking lot of the super bowl (well atleast this years) and I dont think theres enough room to safely have a 1/4 racing and they mainly do it to discourage street racing.
believe me if there was a 1/4 mile track that is close and in san diego i would not hesitate to go, but the 1/8 is all san diego gots and might as well have fun with it >biggrin.gif>
cant be picky with limited space in san diego
Ohi gotcha i see, thaks for the info on the 1/8 yea louisiana has 2 1/4 mile tracks both around 45 mnutes away, so that in a way discourages street racing, but it just happens, theres always going to be that guy in the Mustang that sees the import and jus has to have his ass handed to him, and then theres the excuse like "my clutch is slipping".. so who knows, maybe it does work.. ?
holy crap, props bro.

im to nervous to take my car to the track, i don't want to break anything and i dont want a reaction time of 3 + seconds, and i definitely dont want to embarass myself.

start modding more .. >wink.gif>
