Got Windows Tinted... - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #12496 31 posts Started by CupCrazy38
Went to Topp It Customs today here down in Marietta, Ga... left my car there around 2, guy said it'd be done by 4. Well, thanks to my t-mobie phone, which is such a great providor >frown.gif>, I didn't get the message he left me at 2:35 until 3:55 that the tint guy was in an accident and wouldn't be able to make it.

However, he says he can refer me to a buddy of his up the road who might be able to get it done today. So, I drive over there and talk to the guy. It's about 4:40... tells me to come back around 7... but, when I asked him how much he wanted for the job... got a nice surprise... he wanted $30 less than the other guy... so sweet.

We agree to do 35% all the way around, the legal limit is either 32% or 35%, I couldn't remember, so I went with the 35% to be safe. Well, I go get the car, and he put 30% all the way around.

It looks sick, the dark black on silver, but it's not legal. It's a stupid reason for a cop to pull you over, but where I live, Acworth and Kennesaw city police will pull me over... so, gotta go back and get it re-done >rolleyes.gif>
post some pics of it before you get it redone.

stupid law, thats hardly even dark compared to some i see... i used to live in marietta, thankfully i didnt have a car there i guess
Can you even really tell the difference? Because if legal is 32%, that's only 2% off. Seems like it would be really hard to tell just by looking...
anything less than 32% is illegal??? are you f*ckin kiddin me?? that sucks. i've got 5% all the way around and the legal limit is 20% here and i've been pulled over many times and nothing has been said about it.

former celica owner.
depends on the area and what type of vehicle. I believe mine was 35 on driver/pass. windows, 25 on the little windows by the bench and 15 on the back wind.
Well, looking at it this morning, it doesn't look as dark. But it's still not legal... it's dark enough to get me noticed by the city police though. Anyone who's been around Acworth/Kennesaw Ga. will know what I'm talking about, especially the Kennesaw Police Department.

I had a Cobb County cop right behind me today, he gave me a look, but didn't stop me. But, seeing as my dad's a cop, I definitely won't be able to keep it on my car if it's not legal. Haven't seen my dad since I had the tint put on, but I'll see him later today and he's gonna put the tint meter up to it and let me know. If it doesn't pass, it's no big deal, I'll just take it back to the place that did it... Diamond Customs. They seemed to be pretty cool... charged less, did a nice job, didn't charge tax, and took me in after they closed. They seemed to be doing nice work on other cars, and they did do a nice job on mine.

Though I'm sure a lot of stuff goes on there I don't want to know about...lol. But they asked me about my FOP stickers, and they took care of me. So that was cool.

I'm meeting up w/Beefstew after work today... if I have enough time I'll stop by my house and get my digital camera and take pics of both cars... he just got his rims on.

As for the legalities... while the darker tint does look nice, I can understand the reasons for the laws... if only for officer safety. It's not that big a deal, like 6gencelicasrule said, being only 2%... but it is the law, and I'm supposed to start working for the county on June 21... so eh, gotta change it >smile.gif>
well how did you find out it was 30%. did the guy openly admit 30% tint was put on. Because if you did a tint scanner to see the tint, then he did his job right. All windows come with a small amount of tint to block out UV rays and such. If you have a pre-installed 5% and a 35% put on- you would have a 30%. My buddies Civic with 20% put on came out with 16% with the cops. Just to think about.

Look, if you have 30% and the legal limit is 32, don't worry about it. The cops won't be able to tell that two percent different.

it also doesn't matter if you start to work for the country- far as I can tell- they're not gonna give a flying rats ass about 2% tint.

No offense, but you're freaking out over nothing.
I'll agree with you that it's not that big a deal, but I'm not freaking out. What you don't understand is that the cops in my area will pull me over for it, and they will write me a ticket for it. At least kennesaw will... it's a small town southern police department that uses tickets for revenue.

for 2% difference it's not worth getting a ticket for.
for 2% difference they won't be able to tell? As previous posts are stated, their tint o meters aren't always accurate?
Well, if it's anything like the one the county police use, then it's fairly easy to see the difference. It just looks darker than it really is as well due to the all black interior... so it stands out more when looking at it
I've been through Kennesaw many times and never had a problem with any cops. I was supposed to start working for National Posters there, but couldn't find a place for a decent price(best I could find was $500 a month, but I still had a $340 car payment).

BTW, did the Malibu Gran Prix(go kart track near 75) go out of business? last time I passed by there wasn't anyone there and it was 3pm on a Sat.

I hadn't realized it's been that long, but I haven't been since before my nephew was born(he's 2 yrs & 1 month).
That sucks, I really liked that place.
LOL....ha...ha...that funny! Man you're freaking out over nothing. Cops don't normally pull people over for tints unless your tints are extremely dark....and even if you did get pull over and you were found over by 2% over, they are not going to write you a ticket, unless you're being an ass when they pull you over. The only thing they might do, they might give you a warning or something.

If you don't belive me look at my car, my tints are like 15% or something i can't really remember and i've been pull over many times, and they never say anything about my tints. Just put your frickin' windows down or something....relax its not that serious buddy >wink.gif>

i think im at 20 percent on mine maybe a lil darker on the back and ive never been pulled over for it. when i had my honda i once had a cop shine his BRIGHT LIGHT in my window as i drove past. i suppose to see thru the windows. but other than that ive had no problems. just drive with the sunroof open or roll down a window if youre near a cop! ive had cops pull me over for no front license plate. or because someone with my exact car (when it was stock) had threaten someone with a gun and they thought it was me. until they saw i was just a preppy blonde girl

Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City
Its illegal to have any tint on drive or passenger side doors in NY....but i have 17%

Got the windows checked today... 19%... not even close to the 30%... so yea, it's definitely gotta go
If your so worried about the legality, why did'nt you say anything about not paying tax?

If a cop pulled you over you should just roll down your window then he won't see it. I have never been questioned about my 20%, and this is the first I have ever heard about the cops even caring about a tint besides mirrored. As far as I know, I don't think a cop can legally pull you over for that. I think they have to pull you over for something else, then they can write you a ticket for that also. Not sure if that applys in your state.
forget worrying about getting pulled over, that will never happen where i live. The only thing i worry about is passing inspection, and paying some jack ass $10 to hold two plasic pieces up to my window for all of 5 secs. then telling me it didn't pass, then fixing it and paying another $10. Thats why i say to stay in the legeal limit. Although i know some people that found some guys to pass em, but thats a bitch, and can easly turn into an all day thing. And handing lots of people $10. >smile.gif> live in nc btw.
I've got 20% on mine, and I've been pulled over about 15 times, but I've never had a cop comment on the tint. >smile.gif>

One time I had it tested though, and mine is actually 22% or so, and the legal limit is 25% here, but the cop said that there was a 3% or so margin of error on their tint checking machine, so I was fine. The cop said it looked a lot darker than 22%, but I think it's because my car is a bright color, so there's a lot of contrast.

New Toyota project coming soon...
Here in Ga I was told it's a 2% margin, so the original 30% would have been fine... so, Tuesday at 11 a.m. this problem will all be over with >smile.gif>
Tint laws suck, you all need to move to Florida where the legal limit is 35% on front and 20% on everything back...

I have 10% on everything except the winshield, that's 20%

man, cops suck. Looking out for speeders, looking at lights, looking at tints. WHy dont they go out and do something useful, like keeping the peace instead of just trying to take our money?

I got 20% on all sides except the two small back sides, which are 2.5%. Windshield has no tint. When I got a parking ticket once at school for forgetting to hang my parking permit, they had a comment on the ticket saying that I had very dark tint. hehe, but they didn't do anything bout that.
yea man i gots 20 and its dark at night but cops dont give a shyt unless ur doing something real stupid hehe >wink.gif>
