Where to buy? - 6G Celicas Forums

I'm gonna be looking for a fairly inexpensive, but good and effective cool/cold air intake and was wondering if anyone had some good sites or something to find one on. Would prefer an Injen or AEM (I hear those are the best >biggrin.gif> ) But if you guys think there is another really good one to, lemme know what and where and how much. Thanks all
This would be the part where everyone starts ragging you about the fact that your probably talking about an intake pipe with cone filter and not actually a CAI.
Injen doesn't make cold air intakes for our cars, only short ram, and I don't think AEM makes any intakes at all. My Injen intake was $200... too expensive IMO. It's much more worth it just to get a K&N air filter if all you're after is the horsepower, since it's about the same hp gain.
Talk to 95celgt he made a CAI for me that will fit with just a little bit of modification. I haven't put it in yet but I have measured and everything and it will fit fine. PM him to see whats up.
alright, and as far as injen and AEM making CAI's, I just heard someone mention that earlier that they made them, but I guess not for ours anyway. But yea, I'll look into all that. The K&N filter might be the best idea though. Thanks.
you could always try making your own.. more times then not its cheaper then buying it

yea, I thought about making my own, I think there's even a how-to on it. But Doesn't that involve welding??? I mean, I wouldn't have a problem with it if it did, I'd just need the right tools and learn how, but yea, if I could, I would. I might make my own short ram as a temporary fix and then make a CAI later on. But otherwise, I might just use that site that dstrb put up. That seems like it's pretty tight to.
no welding involved. its really easy, even a monkey could do it

ps: wrong forum >wink.gif>
Not for people with GT's. There is a controller in the way (pretty sure it's cruise control but can't remember), but you need to relocate that to get a pipe past. Only difficultly in that is the cable that runs to it is pretty short and won't reach the other side of the car, so will need extending.

I'll be doing this in the next few weeks so there will be pictures up then.
if you are making a cai fot the gt extending the wires for the cruise control actuator is completely not needed, once the stock air box is out take cruise cont troll along with it mounting parts remove it and take apart to just the little plastic cover with the controls and mount it wher eth stock air box was then just unsnap a few of the wire loom holders and run the wires under the battery tray and there yah go room for cai
two words: ebay.
i have a cai on my car and i didnt hook either one of those wires to my pipe is that dangerous, its been about 5 months since i did it and no problems yet
best way to do it on a FWD A series motor.... is to move the battery to the trunk (which helps with front/rear weight ratio) and to use a 2.5" mandrel bent tubing and send the filter into the fender...

using a reducer at the TB from say a 3" tube actually slows the velocity of the air down there....

I just have a cheapy autozone intake. it sounds nice. Technically wouldn't all short rams perform the same? It's not so much the piping as the filter, right?

Does anyone have EvilSpeed's Cai? Does it work well? and about how much hp gain are u looking at from their kit?
i have my own designed CAI which is a true CAI...the filter sits behind/inside the driver side opening in the vader front bumper/in the fender which is pretty much the same as the evilspeed one, except his sits inside the engine bay and not the fender, its behind the radiator for his. but a claimed 8hp or for his
built my own from the how to. used the 2.5 inch madrel bent tubing from jcwhitney.com and ordered silicone hose coupling off e-bay, and finally a K&N filter model # RX-4010 i believe. I had to modify my piping a bit more than celicaSTX says to, because my radiator fluid reservior was a little obstructive. total...$100 bucks. The added little kick and great resonance are well worth the money spent. im having trouble keeping a light foot >smile.gif>
