I know our cars are already very light but since im at a big power disadvantage with my 7AFE I wanted to take it a step farther and get really light. Im not sure but I was thinking of ripping out the back seats for starters and some of the sound material. If I get Sparco seats or something, are they lighter than stock and by how much? Anyone know what else I can get rid of to lighten my car. I'm willing to take alot out, not the AC and heater and radio though I need music and the proper climate to pilot my lil bullet....Any suggestions would be awsome....
Drop that weight even lower! - 6G Celicas Forums
this ricer around here ripped out everything besides the pedals and the shifter and the steering wheel..."JDM Weight Reduction" he calls it...yeah...wow no further comments...
EDIT: Yeah, start with the backseats..best bet for a decent amount of weight that is practically unusable especially for me being 6'5 , ain't noone getting back there.

Milds3vn, how fare are you wanting to go on this? Doing little of that won't be enough to notice any big difference. You'd have to do it all the way...
What do you mean "all the way"? Like I said I want to keep AC/Heater and radio but besides that i could care less what I take out. I figure if I can get my weight down to 2100lbs and my horsepower up to 150 it should be able to run pretty quick. Im looking for better handling in the twisties, so I want new light weight rims strut bar and coilovers with shocks/struts. I also want to run this in AutoCross so lightening it would help. I figure if I can't get flat out speed I might as well make it handle on rails and respond quickly. I have a 97 ST hatchback by the way.
if you want to do some serious weight reduction strip the car on the inside completely out and take a heat gun and a chizzel and take off all the sound-deading foam and tar material, its about 10 lbs worth of dead weight. then as you put the whole car back togeather, its easier to see what you can lose and what needs to stay.

Lose your spare tire and jack. Also, I wonder if there is an aluminum radiator for our cars?
Carbon fiber hood is also a good Idea. Looses around 30 lbs.

if he wanted to go that crazy he could sit on the tranny and tie the steering wheel to the back of the intake manifold and just do away with the rest of the car
Yea thats what I will do!
If you have power-steering, you should take that out. It will reduce your weigh significantly....
But, If I were you , and you were I, I would just leave the car the way it is. The car is slow and light, you'd better off with engine mods, if speed is what you want. Try polishing your headers, get a new air filter, get cam gears, and get a new exhaust system.

If you really want some power/weight ratio improvements, i would have to say go for engine mods, then for weight remove your backseats, spare tire/jack, and A/C unit- this weighs alot, and you could probably make due without it if you dont mind......i dunno about power steering, it probably weighs alot, but if you took it out you would lose pretty much all of youre steering response, like driving an old truck or something........and maybe some other non-essentials, but only take out what youre willing to lose in youre looks for the interior.

Things I want to get to give my 7a more power:
1. Air-fuel ratio guage
2. fuel pressure guage
3. Apexi Super AFC (why I need the guages)
4. Weapon R Fuel pressure regulator
5. Adjustable cam gears
6. Header
7. Polish manifold and throttle body.
8. underdrive pulley
(also, I might need a new fuel pump and injectors, but I doubt it.)
What do you guys think that will net me? mAybe 20hp?
