Go to:
SCCA PageThey have info on rallycross on the "Rally" tab, and info on Solo II in the "Solo" tab. It has an event calendar, and a locator to find your local club, as well as a number of Q&A type pages, to help you understand all the different kinds of racing you can do. Good luck, its a kick!
What does it cost: Cheap. Generally $35 per event, depending on your local chapter (at least for Rallycross, I think Solo II is about the same)
What should you do to your car: Besides buying a GT... Keep it stock. Its the easiest class to run in, and you'll get a feel for if you want to do anything to it. Also, if you do decide to go out racing an oil change/tune up/inspection by a mechanic can be useful.
If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me a line, and I'll see if I can help you out.
