Hi,
I'm considering doing an AE101 20 valve 4A-GE or an AE101 4A-GZE this summer if I can get the funds together, and if I do a swap at all I'm definitely going to swap transmissions, because I think my synchros are going bad on my tranny. I was wondering, if I swap a new transmission into my car, will I need to change shift linkage cables, or anything like that, or will the new transmission bolt right up to the existing shift linkage cables?

My friend and I are trying to get an idea of exactly how much work a a-series engine swap would be and what exactly we'd need to do. I've got my parents convinced to let me do the 20 valve 4A-GE...I'm hoping I can get them to let me do the 4A-GZE. >>

Get the 4agze. It has more potential. With the silver top, you are basically limited to about 240 from what I have read.

I definitely want to go for the 4A-GZE, but my parents are concerned that I'd drive too fast with it. They say that there's no use for more power, because there's still speed limits.

Friend coomer, you have talked to the right people! I convinced my parents to get me a Corvette for my 16th birthday! Ok, here is what you do.

Arguments:
1. Tell them the supercharger just makes the engine more efficient, which makes it more powerful, but also gives better gas mileage.
2. "If I have some power I wont have as much trouble getting onto the interstate.
3. "I figure I will end up getting the GZE at some point. It's just a better engine. Why not let me get it now?"
Finally, Tell them that the silver top has 20 valves and four Throttle bodies, thus having more that can go wrong. (Warning: this could cause you to not be able to get either engine if they don't go for the gze.)

And, you could always use the girls way out. "if you really care about me, you should respect my feelings." LOL

my mom started off pissed about my window tint, then my exhaust then my intake...it's came to a point that she doesn't even care anymore...shes not paying is what she said so she could care less..just bug the piss out of them -- it works..

get the 4agze, it's way better for non-racing. the tranny on the 4agze and the 4age 20V is the same series as the one used on the celica, just a newer version, the cables should line up fine.

tell them the 4agze gets way better gas mileage. >>

tell em its actaully slower and have better gas milage then show them specs of mk1 duece i think it actually sez around 150ish

Thanks for the replies. Does the 4A-GZE actually get better gas mileage, or is this just something I should tell my parents even though it's not true? I was under the impression that forced induction engines use up a lot more gas than naturally-aspirated ones do.

the 4agze gets ok gas mileage, i was kinda joking, but yeah, you can show them the specs of the US one, it's 145 HP... not much more than the GT.

As long as they don't know how to use the web, taht would be great.
