hahaha if this is true...then yea toyota will die. They were the 2nd most selling manufacture (of cars) in the world...I wonder what will take its spot now...cause hell no the Scoin's will nvr replace what toyota used to make. I rather have a old corolla than the current family car one with the FE engines...an yea that's all they seem to produce now...FE engines...o well if its true, then the future of toyota is not bright.
Toyota made it official - 6G Celicas Forums
I dont really have anything to say...Unfortunatly I think we all knew it was coming

YoungSurvival.Org-Celica traded for.. 350z.. traded for Mazda5.. soccer mom!
i cant say im surprised, ive been kind of expecting it... but i am far from happy about it.
toyota has found their nitch in the market making cheap affordable reliable family cars and making affordable luxury vehicles with their lexus line as well as making some odd and out there vehicles from their scion line to try to stay a little fresh. Somehow that combo is working for them. all it is is a shift completed. ever since 94 when they dropped sales of a GT4 celica, theyve been slowly pulling out of the sports car segment. for example:
94 toyota decides to no longer sell their all-trac/GT-4 celica in the US
95 toyota discontinues their MR2 in the US, though continuing it in Japan till 98.
98 toyota drops their super car supra
2000 toyota brings back the MR2, but in a much more refined, matured MRS
and now, 2004, toyota drops the last of their sport compacts, celica and MRS in favor of the Scions and solara.
id say give them untill their family oriented car sales begin slipping and we'll start seeing more performance toyotas.

Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them allNo but I don't buy itLike anything you do, as anyone you areCause I'm...Ten Speed, of God's Blood & Burial
its a sad day.. The solara can't compete as a sports car, hell its not even a sports car. toyota no longer has a sports car for it market. The IS300 is not a sports car and neither is anything else a lexus has... I'm just glad that I bough the last good looking sports car(aside from supra) that toyota made... time for an engine swap or just something better

My prediction is the company will have new sports car offerings in the not too distant future. Their recent renewed committment to racing in the NASCAR and other venues suggests they are not going to be gone from performance cars for long.

now that there isnt going to be an 8th gen.... looks like g35/lex/mb is knocking on my doorstep after the celi

Unfortunatly it looks like toyota is expecting the Matrix to keep their sportscar fans. They are going to have an AWD/ Turbo version. I still can't believe they decided to do that to a Matrix, and never tried another round with it in the Celica before calling it quites.
The only hope I have for Toyota is that they will ended release another Supra in the US. I have seen ALOT of official concept pics. Some good, some not so good. We shall see.

The AWD turbo Matrix is a 3sgte
not in the US

okay. wow, this is a sad start to my day. I dunno what to say, I mean after seven generations Toyota discontinues the Celica in favor of a mere trend (Scion). you know what though, as sad an event as this is, it gives me even more encouragement to popularize the sixth gen celica.
This is unfortunate but it was on the cards. Reason being is that the japanese are buying more mini mpvs and thats where the market lies.
also many of the people on the site say they feel betrayed by toyota. However if youre a company like toyota would you create a car in order to get teenagers happy about it who cant really afford it? The GT4 in the uk was priced at £30000, can anyone here afford to spend even $30000 on a car? as far as the supra goes that would cost anywhere between 40 and 60000 dollars. How many would they sell? very few, and there no kudos because toyotas are no longer in rally championships/touring car.
Its all business at the end of the day and if we could afford to spend 60000 on a car we wouldnt be in 6 gens. Toyota knows this so theres no point in making a car that doesnt sell.

People are going with the super compact boxy look these days I guess, The beetle, Scion etc....
Must be a fad, really who likes driving around in a box.....
Must be a fad, really who likes driving around in a box.....
What kills me is how it's a trend with these boxy/semi SUV/hatch-back-whatever cars that Toyota seems to be gearing towards...when there's the larger trend of all-wheel drive turbo cars (WRX, Lancer, etc). Where does the All-Trac and GT4 fit in??? Right with that trend. Hands down Toyota was stupid to not bring the GT4 to the US because they would have been the trend setter before Subaru and Mitsubishi came along. Now they won't even have a sporty car in their line at all! Toyota's loss for being stupid. I'm glad I'll own a unique car now.

how can toyta say that celicas are not bringing in sales... every day i easily see 20-30 celicas and i live in a small town. and about them not bringing back an expensive car becuase noone can afford it... wrx sti is only 30 something.... why does toyota have to suck choad. they are going to lose the segmant of the market to honda those jerkoffs....its pathetic, honda will have more sport cars than toyota. heck a civic will be sportier than toyotas sportiest car.... thats just sad. they need to have some pride in their company, a supra, awd celica. ANYTHING.... bah to toyota. ill end up buying an acura, honda, or something else in the future...scions suck and so do matrixes, i dont want to drive around in a box
Of those 20-30 celicas.... compare those to Camrys. If I were Toyota, Id do the same. Object goal is to make money, not to make teenagers with a 10-yr old car budget happy. Dont bash the Scion until you've been in it, and dont lie and say you have. The Tc looks very promising... almost like a rebirth 6th gen. Yes more angles, but thats ok. I think Toyota needs one sports car to look forward to. Something to compete with Nissan/Mazda/Mitsu/Honda. Something around the 35 grand mark. Nissan is the 350z (we dont have the skyline). Mazda is a n/a rx8. Mitsu is a turbo evo, and honda has there type-r and s's. I'll look forward to Toyotas new 35 grand car.
Personally, I'm not convinced by the announcement. I don't see Toyota choosing to simultaneously kill off the Celica and MR2/S. That's a big risk for them to take. Killing off one series and finding out down the line you were wrong would be costly, never mind two. And there's the possibility of the Supra being left in limbo since nothing I've heard about a new one has struck me as being 100% concrete, though I'm certainly hopeful.
The Celica hasn't been the biggest seller the world has ever seen. It's always been seen as the "individual's choice" and not necessarily the choice of the masses. That said, it's always been very popular with the people who do "get it" and got good reviews. More importantly, the Celica has often been the testing ground for Toyota's latest bit of technology (the most obvious of course being VVTi/VVTLi since they're the most recent). And since it's been around so long you know it's got to have paid its dues with Toyota otherwise it wouldn't have made it to 7 generations. SO DON'T KILL IT OFF!
As for the MR2...Toyota, that sold like hot-cakes that have been recently marked down to half-price, ever since its arrival in the mid-80s. Toyota put exhaustive effort into perfecting the car, the result of which is the MR2 series being viewed as one of their finest technical achievements. Take the SW20. The only reason it stopped selling in the US when it did is because someone decided to discontinue it there. It would've carried on stomping away in the sales figures for ages if it had just been left alone, like it did in other territories. So suddenly terminating the series sounds bizarre.
They might get rid of them, and they might mean forever...right now at least...I've seen statements like that made before in the car industry and the "dead" model often makes a comeback X years later. They might only get rid of them in certain territories, or it might not happen at all. Either way if they do do it, for any period of time, it will certainly be a shame. The 6GC (particularly the ST205) has been my fave car since the generation launched.
Well, that's my 2 cents for what it's worth. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to fill Toyota's Inbox with all the E-mail my fingers can muster, just in case...

dammit i want an MR2-S too.....
Whatchu Know Bout In Dash Tv's? - Mike Jones....WHO?
Well people i need to tell you the following. Toyota produces quite a lot of cars and the Celi may be discontinued for U.S. but it can remain in other markets. I have an uncle who is a used japanese car importer and he has a book with all the current japanese models (all makes) let me just say that 90% of the cars i saw in there i never knew they existed. One thing is for sure. Toyota will have a full product range covering one way or another the whole market.
Food for thought. How many people do you know that bought their Celi brand new?
Personally, none.

I think Toyota will come up with a nice car if they really decide to drop the celica line. One of the examples is a Toyota (WILL VS) I saw here in Moscow. It has a 1800cc engine and 180 hp. It's for sale only in japan but some are brougt to Russia by people who like sport cars. I'm not saying that it looks better then a 6gen, I'm just hoping that all is not as bad as it seems.

The Will looks kinda like a next variant Matrix. Does look better that what they've got now. With some redesigns to the rear I'd take one. Time will tell.
