Saw these Rotors - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #14525 21 posts Started by coustoe
Speedtoe bought a pair off ebay for 85-100 bucks. He says they are great and has had no problems with them. I'd look in to those first
ya these are $189 for a set of four. seems like a fair price.
What's the name for the ones speedtoe got? I'm looking for rotors now.
I got brembo OEM replacements (front) for $52 off of www.tirerack.com I like to stay away from e-bay on parts that are necessary to keep me from rear-ending the guy in front of me.

pointless for them to be cross-drilled AND slotted....
well actually the cross drill will help it vent heat off better and the slots will help them shead moisture better...
crossdrilled and slotted rotor will really eat away at your pads. I would get either cross drilled or slotted, not both
I heard that some cross drilled rotors crack very easily?
my pads havent been eatin and my rotors havent cracked

my friend bought some slotted/drilled rotors and supposed "racing" pads off ebay awhile ago, and he said there more sensitive and haven't had any problems though

his are for a prelude tho

i got drilled & slotted ones from ebay, irotors was the company, there identical to those youve got there, zinc coated and all, the work good, even with the super crappy pads i have on now, no problems with extra wear, or cracking..the zinc coating works good on the hats too, had them over winter and all, still not rusty! >wink.gif>

btw, i didn't look at the pic, but i know the ones that speedtoe got did not have many drill holes...since he autocrosses he kept it to a low amount(if memory serves me correct)
"...on average, a six-piston caliper squeezes a rotor with somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 pounds of force. Now imagine taking a sharp turn at high speed with that caliper solidly clamped. That's when your rotor will experience flex, which is when cross-drilled rotors tend to crack." -Super Street

Unless you truely know what you're doing with brakes, (and no offense but you may have room to learn if you're searching on ebay) just get brembo OEM's.

Read that link too

wow..just wow, you guys really need to become informed before spreading such ludacris "knowledge".

Today there is no need for cross drilled rotors. Other than you like the looks enough, there is no performance benefit to using them, unless you are using brake pads made 50 years ago. Slotted rotors were initally concieved since early brake pads gave off gasses when heated from performance driving. Why? Because the gas acted like a lubricant in that it formed a thin layer inbetween the pad and rotor. This, obviously, lowered the coefficient of friction, thus lowering brake efficiency. It worked nicely, however with time came change and now a days brake pads do not suffer from this "gassing"

So basically, these drilled rotors became more of a asthetic piece. No they do not lower temps, actually they might even raise them since the holes remove the effective surface area needed to dissapate the heat. Also, as it has been posted already, the holes increase the stress in the rotor, making cracking more likely. The holes could even act as cheese grater for your pads, slicing/shaving pieces off.
[The exception being motorcycles where the damn rotors look like swiss cheese themselves- but the stress/pad wear issue is still a factor; this is just done for weight savings..nothing else] <-- Its a trade off: longer pad life/lower temps vs weight.

Think about it...how many nascar/f1/etc do you see with drilled rotors?

Slotting is a little different...this can actually have some benefit. The slots can help keep the brakes clean of glaze and whatnot that can lower brake efficiency. However the cuts shouldnt be deep and cut correctly for their to be any tradeoff benefit.

As for going with cheaper ebay rotors...all i am going to say is you get what you pay for. Those cheaper rotors probably started off with mediocre blanks at best..and drilling holes sure isnt going to help. I dont mean to come off as a pompous jerk; Its your car and money do with it as you wish...just dont go spreading false info.
