I was wondering if it is possible to get a little over 400 hp out a 3sgte with $10,000 including the engine swap. also should you get the cylinders bored with oversized pistions to get more power?
i dont think you could.... but im no expert...
You should be able to hit 400 with 10k easily
yeah, and you'll need a new tranny. But getting the engine there is a piece of cake.
including the swap though? pricing the swap at $3500 (you can easily spend that on a swap) that leaves $6500... thats having to squeeze over 150hp out of 6500 bucks... im no engine expert, but it seems kinda hard to me...
lol, with boost thats EASY

slap a boost controller on the 3s, new exhaust, new manifold, turbo and intake manifold... (500)(400)(1000)(700)(1000) thats about 3600, and will land you at 400 if you raise the boost a little to about 12 or so.

Remember, eclipses and stuff run 18 psi STOCK; the 3sgte has a TON of potential just by raising the boost pressure.
You neglected the cost of LSD, standalone fuel management, injectors, forged internals, head work, turbo cam, ect ect ect..............
None of which you need to HIT 400 with the 3sgte

yea, you can reach that easily.
you will need the engine, FMIC, mr2 tranny with lsd, clutch, fuel system to support 500hp(dont want to cut it close with fueling), fuel, spark and boost control, turbo upgrade, full exhaust, water injection and more than likely more things.

idk if you can do it for $10k with tuning and labor and misc crap that you will need during the swap.

thats also not including internal engine repair/modding. sure, the stock parts can take 400hp but thats right at the limit, and when you run right at the limit, you have an unreliable car.

what do you think that average price would be for the swap, new internals, biger turbo, boost controler, etc. would be roughly 12,000-15,000?

thats a decent discussion on what is needed to get to your powergoals. lots of different opinions, so just make your own conclusion from their chatter. personally i value jekylandhyde's opinion, hes got alot of knowledge from dealing with noshoes and lots of tuning people with his car, so hes learned alot, not to mention how lucky that guy is, nearly 200,000 miles on the car and drag races it every season, never been rebuilt lol

also note when they say "FWHP" they mean flywheel horsepower, not front wheel horsepower

sell your car for around 8k, and take that 18k and buy a supra

or buy a gt4 for $10-$12k from japan or a country that has jdm imports, then use the other money to ship and register it (might cost alittle more than how much you got left), and then you got AWD w/ 250hp, and that'll beat a FWD w/ 300+hp off the line and in a drag. Then over time just soup it up.

rjb is right. You'd own that turbo

Evo max is 18.

Eclipse stock is 10psi max 15psi
SRT4 stock is 12psi max 16psi
Evo stock is 13psi max 18psi

These are visual estimates. I've owned 2 Eclipses, sell SRT4's and driven Evo's. >smile.gif>

I'll be the party pooper and say... no... you probably cannot do it, in fact, unless you're doing the work all yourself, or with friends who can do it for free... then definately No. Imagine... the average shop charges roughly 50-60 dollars per hour... then imagine all of the work and all of those hours... unless you got some sort of hook-up...

Anyways... here's my break down:

Swap costs, parts/labor/motor/etc: 3SGTE front clip (2000) parts ie: timing belt, drivebelts, gaskets, seals, waterpump, clutch etc... (~500) MR-2 LSD 5 speed tranny (~500-600) labor (~1500) TOTAL: ~$4500 or so give or take a few hundred depending on what parts you use... and shop you go to. It can easily be more... just ask people like Ray, Coomer, etc...

Now... to reach the 400+ hp mark:

Upgraded turbo system, which is a must. The stock CT-26 turbo can boost up to 15 psi... but will fail miserably soon after. Just ask XXXMina, and even at 15 psi, he was only around 340-350 bhp... anyways (~2000) give or take a few hundred depending on set-up... PISTONS... the stock 3SGTE pistons/rods will be the next to fail under heavy boost... forged/upgraded/strengthened is needed (~800-1000) again... give or take a few depending on brand... fuel system ie: upgraded fuel pump, injectors, fuel rail, pressure regulator, lines etc... (~400) give or take... electronics ie: boost controller, piggybacks, etc... (~600-1000) give tor take depending on brands... exhaust set-up (200-500) depending on shop... Intercooler kit (~500-800) labor (1000+) easy... Currently TOTALING: ~6000 and that's all excluding time, tuning, and the little shiat.

A lot of people seem to underestimate power goals... but it takes a lot of work to do things right and have your car run reliably. To be totally honest, as a person who has tuned cars for a long time and as a person who does help run a shop... it's time consuming work, and it costs a lot of $$$ especially if you can't do it yourself. My estimates are rough and don't include a lot of things... like waiting, the little bits here and there that nickle and dime to death, down-time, unexpected problems (which there always are) and TUNING. Dyno time costs $$$ and time...

Anyway... that's my realistic look at it... it rings in just over 10K... but I'll promise you, sometimes the swap alone can rack up that much... and I was very lenient on labor costs and parts even... good luck...

I have no reason to doubt Kwanza. However, to illustrate his point even more Mina's swap cost him almost $8,000 and he had 298 whp and that was with a Gen III and 18psi. I will have about 230whp this year and mine will be right around $6500. Lagos is completing his on his own so he has no labor cost and claims to be at $4000 with the GT tranny.
