Preignition!! - 6G Celicas Forums

Anyone else have this problem? My car has 160k miles on it and i figure it probably has tons of carbon build up because of oil burning. The timing is set and it has new plugs. I have also ran two cans of seafoam through it to clean out the carbon but it still preignites. The only way i can somewhat get rid of it is to retard the timing. Anyone else have this problem and what have you done about it>?
user a higher octane gas, that should stop it.

ive ran premium and it makes no difference
Get a timing gun and retard the timing a few degrees. Should be at 8

Just what i said...premium gas made no difference for me. I know it can make a difference but it didnt. I think there is just too much carbon buildup. Also, for the 1.8L and 2.2L timing is the same at 8? On my 1.6L corolla its supposed to be at 10.
Toyota spec is 10 deg btdc if you have data link: te1 and e1 jumpered
